Try fishing the flats south of the point. You will have to cross the tracks so be very careful of the "third rail". You can wade far out on these flats and the bait guys use sand/blood worms. There are huge carp there also and I wish I could have hooked one.

I regulary fly fish LI sound, and bait fish with my young children on the Hudson during the spring run. can you give me another landmark for the flat south of Croton Point. I have done a lot of stupid things to get to good fishiing spots, but after having a good friend crippled from a "third rail" incident in CT I am a little leary about crossing the tracks. Any information would be helpful as I prefer to fly fish and have not yet seen anyone fish this section of the river wiht a fly rod yet.

just to bring this safety point from an older post ;

You do not have to step on the third rail to get electricuted , there is an electric power arc around the rail it collects power for the train shoes
