And Don, you really like to travel :)

And my red/white magdarter is the first out of the bag, and I am usually finding that color combo snagged on a rock or piling in a certain location :hihi:

You might have something there on the Daredevil. I caught my first fish ever on one when I was ten YOA on a Garcia conolon rod and Mitchell 304....over half a century ago, but you never forget the first one!

Dog...brought back memories of Deal Lake; my 3 fave lures were a Daredevil, a yellow black spots Abu Reflex spinner and a little wobbling metal called a Super Duper; used my Mitchell 300 which I saved all year to buy; still have it....it was the Mercedes of it's time

Catching that first LMB with the Daredevil, while every one else was bobber and worm fishing, put a swagger in my step, and a fisherman was born! Game ON! My grandpa bought me my Mitchel 304.....of course I still have it too!

Repeated the trip from Thursday on Saturday...from kayak...solo...Raritan bay ...same conditions...calm with severe heat..had to take a swim at the end to cool myself down...temps in low 90F and ocean went from 76F ( outgoing) to 81F (incoming)...bite was as relentless as last time...caught around 100 short fluke with 2 keepers barely measuring over 18"...ratio 50:1...terrible...could it be that shorts are in shallow water between 5 to 25ft and that larger fish is deeper?...any thought on that?

A few years ago I had 535 fluke for the season with about a doz. keepers. The following year was 300 with maybe 10 keeps. These were mostly off the beach in 5-10 ft of water with about a doz boat trips each year in deeper water.

Bill the ultra lights was the 310 and the 410. I was smarter then and only needed one reel!
Here is the 304. It was a lower gear ratio and less line capacity than the 300.

Hit the Breezy Point beaches last night after the Mets game. Fished sand fleas 90% of the time on a 1/8 oz rubber worm hook sometimes with a crab on a 4o circle hook on a long dropper loop. Ended up with 5 stripes and a sea robin only the bird hit the flea on the dropper. They’re right in the wash. All hits came within 40 ft of shore and all on the beach side of Breezy. Felt good after hitting the beach for an hour Friday night in So MoCo and getting my first skunk in a while

The red and white Daredevle lure was the go to northern pike lure when I was stationed in the U.P. of Michigan back in the mid-sixties. Kudos for bringing back some fond memories.

Impressive numbers Jim...I guess the ratio has been around for a while...It is just frustrating that you have to weed out a lot of small fish to get to a bigger one...but in other hand if you would catch 3 keepers in half an hours it would not be that mach fun

Moco 5p-8p from the top to start of outgoing tide while out front. A strong south wind that for the first hour that then shifted to the west. I caught a few short flat ones using casting gear with a bucktail and teaser, while noticing a large amount of rain fish in the wash and several speedy flashes of silver in the wash caught my attention. I switched out to a surf candy teaser to go along with the white bucktail and caught five Spanish Mackerel on the teaser. The action lasted about twenty minutes. All SM released.
I finished the evening with a dozen short flat ones two right at 18 that were released, and one keeper at 19 inches. Several skates were also hooked and released. Here is the surf candy teaser that worked tonight, along with a sample SM.
