Only two shorts tonight :headscratch: 2 quick shorts, then billy black cloud shows, and the bad juju shifts and he starts catching :dunno:

Left for Florida today. Interesting bait reports. Get your AVAs ready and May the sand eels be with you. Will let you know how the reds and snook are treating me

Re: Fishing Reports for the rest of 2018

Moco Outfront10:30AM to 5PM I fished an outgoing tide to the bottom and then incoming. There was a west wind swinging to NW. The tide was running as hard as I have seen all year with this new moon. High tide was six feet over the norm which allowed phragmites reed, branches and tree sweepers, as well as debris to enter the water. I was on the fly and as long as I could keep the pink and white Jiggy fly clean of debris I caught. Lost count between six and ten short stripers.

Safe travels BW!

Tog this morning were small, going to try this afternoon as well.

Boats are getting decent bass in the back down here, nothing much on the ocean / inlet front. Some jettyjocks are picking some bigger than slots overnights.

Re: Fishing Reports for the rest of 2018

I have not seen any fish 26 inches to 29 inches this fall. A few weeks ago I did catch 4 between 30 inches and 35 inches. But since then, only shorts 25 inches and below The 26 to 29 class would be 6 years old. Hurricane Sandy Time. Even though the spawn was in the spring, could those delicate fish survive the fall in the contaminated water of the rivers and bays. Any thoughts out there:dunno: obviously other species would be affected but I don?t know their life cycles.:lecture:

Re: Fishing Reports for the rest of 2018

All the 26 to 29's are in the south jersey backbays this year :)

Actually I don't know that but will ask around, I see a bunch of slot pictures but perhaps not in the actual size/year class you mentioned.

well tog fishing has been a mystery this year down here.

none of the big tog have shown up, and in fact the population is very light
for this time of year. water conditions were perfect and yet it was a very very
slow pick of 12" ers.

Re: Fishing Reports for the rest of 2018

An interesting day for me yesterday.
I started at Seaside where I looked at the ocean just after high tide. I threw a plug and then a bucktail in the surf which looked beautiful. Nothing at all doing.
I moved down to IBSP to try the bay side, where I got 2 shorts on my trusty bucktail, but it looked like it should have been even fishier.

I then drove the 25 miles around to Lanoka Harbor (5 miles as the crow flies) to meet my boating buddy. We got out the Inlet for a couple hours of trolling and only saw ONE fish on the electronics and ZERO on our lines. There were reflections of huge clouds of what I think were sand eels - balloon shaped and tight forms that come from the bottom way up into the water column. I think we got some excellent practice at the mechanics of trolling Mojos and plugs at depths of 15 to 40 feet. When some fish finally arrive they're in trouble! We saw no bunker schools on the surface or on the screen.

I am still ready, but wondering when...

Interestingly enough togging in western Long Island Sound has been much better for me than in previous years...
Made a trip on kayak yesterday with 3 other buddies...6am to 5pm...perfect conditions, air temps in mid 40F..water 56F ...
At the beginning we run into bass blitz with birds where I caught 5 bass in 26" range with one 31" keeper...all on top water popper.
Then we went togging..got 7 keepers with the largest being 22" ( 6.5 lbs) and the smallest 16.5"...fished 3 different spots and I got a keeper at each of them...
On our way back in afternoon run into another blitz with fish swirling all around us...got 6 more bass...one of those days
By the way the sunrise photo is not the best...it was cloudy in the morning

very nice... it's acting like everything is late... 2 weeks ago we were still getting killed by tiny seabass... which are normally cleared out.

but the lack of big tog is very strange... it's not just me either :headscratch:

I just got back home. Drove 3 hours down yesterday to get skunked yesterday, but this morning I picked up a 25-26 incher at around 7:30 on clams. About an hour later my bunker reel started screaming and almost spooled me, so I picked it up, got the drag tightened up and turned the fish back, got into the braid and the bugger popped off in the wind driven waves...GONE!? The only other fish I heard about was my neighbor at the Lodge told me he was walking on last evening and saw a guy walking off with a keeper. 52 degrees and wind was 20 into my face

Moco 2p to 5p Outfront outgoing to the bottom of the tide. On the fly with only one small Hickory shad. Ocean was flat with no swell and a SSE wind. Observed small bass being caught at the end of some long casts by the braid spinning brigade using shads and bucktails. lead and lines were zipping all over. :mob :smhair2:

Could you imagine if those fish had any weight to them,:uhoh: One place to stay far away from. I heard someone went for a swim at the tip:eek: people have to realize that when a tanker cruises buy there is a tsunami not too far behind:doh2: get away from the water quick. Thank god he was able to get out of the rip and into calmer water.

Bayyaker 11-12-2018 09:36 PM

Re: Fishing Reports for the rest of 2018

I learned my lesson the hard way about 8yrs ago. Fishing up to my waist, the tanker came by, the water dropped to my ankles :headscratch: then up to my chest and I was bobbing down the beach, never again.

Re: Fishing Reports for the rest of 2018

big bass are down in the AC area, some nightowl jetty jocks and boats are getting them.

and bayyaker... I saw that one time during the day and was able to avoid being swept away but those tanker tsunami's are impressive as long as you don't get caught in them yourself!

I'm going to take a walk out to the tip this morning for the noon high tide and will be very alert for those tsunamis. Thanks for the reminder.
It looks like it's going to be wet and windy, but if it were nice I'd have to work. I hope the fish don't mind the weather.

If I am boring you, please, let me know...Monday, western LIS on kayak ...6am to 4pm...good weather forecast "forced" me to take a day and go fishing...group of 4 on multiple kayaks!!!
The whole bay was place of non-stop bass blitzing followed by the birds..it was relentless...there was no time that I did not see a cloud of birds working somewhere ...you could see bass swirling on the top, diving under the kayak...they were chasing schools of peanut bunker...not very large fish in general...caught about dozen and half up to 26"...when I got tired of chasing them around I went tog fishing to rest a bit...a bite was slow early on but it picked up around 10 am...6 tog keepers between 16.5" to 19"...one of those nice November days.

Re: Fishing Reports for the rest of 2018

Just curious has fishing this fall been extremely slow in the OC, IBSP area? Even though I'm 1000 miles away I still periodically check reports etc... I've noticed the B&N website has barely had any video weigh ins the entire fall. Could be people are more tight lipped about what they catch than they used to be but it did strike me as unusual. Either way the action has to be better than SW FL, red tide has the fishery shut down here. For those of you who don't know what that is, trust me you don't want to.

That red tide situation is tragic :(

A lot say it every year "it's late"... but it really is this year. The 2 weeks of summer at the beginning of October really screwed things up in our neck of the woods, but migration is happening, of course, just a matter of big girls being in close.... or not.

That's true. December can be a very productive month if water temps cooperate. I honestly had no knowledge of red tide before I moved down here. It really is a problem and must be killing the tourism industry for those who depend on it.

Re: Fishing Reports for the rest of 2018

And the report...
22 shorts up to 25" on the good old BT / curly tail, with my 7' Tsunami Slimwave serving most excellently. 5 doubles! I fished almost 4.5 hours and my shoulder would have given out if I'd tried to cast for that long with the 10 foot rod I had with me. The wind was cranking from the NNW, but with fish hitting I surely didn't mind. I left just after 4:30 with fish biting, and there were 6 or 8 guys still fishing. Waves were rolling in hard from the ocean and the bay, making it real important to watch what was going on around me.
