My former cable company...

It was amazing how many 'special offers' they had for me when I called to disconnect today...almost as amazing as the FIOS internet speed.

They passed me through four freaking people today to cancel my cable.."but sir you will be paying more for less". How? My cable right now is 60 and the internet is 45, that's 105, FIOS is 95 including phone...I think you need a new battery in your calculator. Your going to pay taxes on the full amount, I know, my total bill wil be 126 a month and as much as I hate giving money to the government, I hate giving money to tha cable company more.

"Your going to be disappointed with your connection", OK you have my records in front of you, how many service calls have I had in the past few years because you cant get a decent tech to fix the cable connections on the pole right? Tell you what, I had copper from Verizon on my house for 12 years and never had a problem...maybe you should hire that guy. Listen this is a done deal, I'm talking to you on a FIOS connection, sounds pretty good to me, how about you?

"Well sir I think you are making a mistake and you'll come back to cable." No, if FIOS doesnt work out I'll get a dish..."You are going to be paying more for less"..."I have 10 more HD channels than you offer, an internet connection 5 times as fast as yours and a 4-8 hour UPS on my phone...are you using that calculator with the bad battery again?

I've been talking about this for a while now. The company I work for sells Verizon their fiberoptic cable for the new networks. I knew this was coming for five years now. It's good to see the cable companies get some solid competition.

I only wish they had it in my area. I do have a question though. That quick little blurb at the end of the commercial says something about the $99.00 introduction fees lasting for the first year then after the year, regular rates apply.

Did they give you any idea what the regular rates were like?

I was told it would be 129 plus tax, so I figure 160ish. Whatever it costs I'm happy not to give ANY of my money to that company with no 'vision'.

nice :D I only signed up for the "slow" FIOS but it's great. I've been anti Comcast since Armstrong stole the cash from AT&T and went there (actually I don't know if he's still over there or not, but he was not one of my favorite execs of all time ...)

:bawling: :bawling: :bawling: I can't get it, some one I know one block over does have it and their one block farther from the Verizon center. Well they like it and I've been hearing good things about it. I did have Direct TV a few years ago and hated it. It didn't work most of the time and never worked if it was raining, they were sending a guy every few days clear shot at the sky but no one could tell why it wouldn't work :headscratch: .

I've got DirecTV now (my son signed up for it a few months ago... so won't change until the contract expires) and have never had a problem with snow, rain, etc. so who knows?

I will switch to FIOS tv once directv is up though. (at least most likely... thing is I get YES, SNY, NESN (sox), and MASN(o's and nats) sports networks and they are really cool)

FIOS's rocks!

Last weekend I was out front doing some stuff and this car pulls up to the house with some guy and his clipboard.

He walks over to me and tells me that he is from cablevision and he has a deal to get me back. By the time he left, I put the odds at 50-50 he gets FIOS too!

When my wife went to cable to drop off the equipment, she told me there were around 10 others doing the exact same thing.

I hate cable.

PS... Frank, I did 9600 KBPS on a speed test. That was my highest, 2800 was my slowest.
My fastest with cable ever was 800.

Besides that, On demand never pixelates.

Funny thing I consistently get a higher test result from my cable providers Bandwith test than I do from bandwidth.com...............

Frank,

You got the upgrade?

Here outgoing bandwidth is limited to 2M unless you upgrade to the 50 meg incomming and then you get the 10 meg (?) outgoing.
