Just saw "Finest Hour" which is about the wreck of the Pendleton off Monomoy where the CG rescued most of the merchant vessel's crew. We spent 25 years living just north of the wrecked hull seeing it on the horizon every day. Our CG daughter Susan spent a tour at the Chatham CG station. The rescue crew's most harrowing moments were assaulting the Chatham Bar, which we called Long Bar striper fishing. Film was scary.
In the time this rescue occurred, early 1950s, there was a song at its height in popularity: "Sit down, Sit down -- you're rockin the boat". It was woven into the story.
