Default Mary James sinks Point Pleasant NJ

The U.S. Coast Guard has found a body, a life raft and a life ring about 22 miles southeast of Manasquan and they are continuing their search for a fishing boat, authorities said.
The Coast Guard found the body after receiving a Mayday call Sunday evening.

The body has not yet been identified, but all are indications are that the body, the debris and the Mayday call came from the fishing vessel Mary James, a 40-foot scallop boat that moors at the Red's Lobster Pot in Point Pleasant, authorities said.

Coast Guard rescue crews are using a helicopter, a long-range surveillance aircraft, rescue boats and an 87-foot coastal patrol boat in their search for any other bodies or survivors.

The Coast Guard search and rescue coordinators received the Mayday call around 11:15 p.m. Sunday.

A rescue helicopter was diverted from a previous case to begin searching. Around 2:30 a.m., during a helicopter search, a crew found an empty life raft. During another search, a crew found the life ring, with the vessel name of Mary James printed on it, authorities said.
