Good points. I think I'll start a thread on Money Fishing. I only hope everybody is polite.

It took me 3 days to read this tread with lack of time due to work/school. Was like a good book. Have to say favorite parts were hearing about the ones that got away.

Frank,

Why not use this thread a the basis of a book "In Memory of Al Bentsen" and have some people write a contributary story and you edit and publish? You could get permission to include the articles on eel rigging from the publisher of "The Secrets of Night Fishing" (or whatever that book was called) and then give the proceeds to a charity of his kids choice.
What do you think?

JC

Writing such a book has to first have a go-ahead from a publisher. Even If I wrote it, that is not a guarantee a publisher would take it. Sales are what drive a book and afer a few hundred on Long Island, it would pretty much be over. First, I don't write for nothing because it is what I do. Secondly, even if we fiind someone to absorb the initial expense of a vanity printing, I doubt there would be profits for any charity. I share in your loss, but I believe that it would not work. Publishing is a business and the numbers have to work.

Jason, I did not see your suggestion until it was brought to my attention. I only did a couple of quick posts over the otherwise busy weekend.

I'm wondering if we can still pull this up. It is very entertaining.

If you want Frank, I will make it a "sticky" and it goes to the top of the forum. I think we did that when Al first passed away, but I have "CRS"...

Wow, what an amazing thread to read, especially for a young Surfcaster like myself. Thank you to all that contributed.

I can't believe it has been over 3 years since Al passed. I used to go to Long Island every year or two to visit Al and my "Uncle Sandy" (84 years old) but now I have not been back in 3 1/2 years.
Happy Thanksgiving Al (and the rest of you!)!

I knew Nate and John Curran fishing in P-town. I had not met Gus. I don't think he came to P-town. I got a letter one time from him back when he worked at some Fulton St fish market. Gus had handled a very big striper, told me about it and it was mentioned in one of my books.
