Tip for additional casting distance : stretching your line EVERY outting is a must ,if your not the max. distance is not reaching with least amount of effort . Cleaning the line frequently helps also .

Now, for surf casting rods, I wished I lived closer to Seaside, I have about 10 rods I would like to donate to some group.
I'm in my 60's now, looking for a simpler life.

Old thread, but was thinking about this.

I just had 4 of my father-in-law's old surf rods rebuilt by a local builder / restorer.
The last one is almost finished, an old lami fiberglass rod that (these are all spin/convench surf rods) is going to be absolutely gorgeous.

But after this, I realize I'll have 10 complete, perfectly fishable depending on desire/conditions and methods, surf outfits, ranging from 10' 4-8 spinners; 12' 4-10 convench; down to 9' 1-3 spin outfits, everything in between, and this doesn't count the 4 light setups (7-8', 1-3 oz, spin/baitcast... rods/reels used for surf kingfish etc.) nor the various boat rods.

This, of course, in addition to the fly outfits and does not count rods in various states of disrepair that might just need a guide, or some other minor tweaking to get up to snuff... have at least 6 of these.

THEN LAST NIGHT at our local club meeting, friend and club president Joe G had his 12'6" Ross 6wt. spey rod which I tried for the first time.

OH MY what a difference. 50'+ cast on the first try, and shooting more than that was e f f o r t l e s s.

I'm very impressed and now realize my next outfit is in sight.
But I definitely have to clean out stuff... including guitars... and soon.

2 handed fly rods are a joy to cast. I use the same old cast and don't really change, Pick up, roll cast, one back cast and shoot. Much better than I can do with a one hander that I false cast way to much.
