Smile Rod Repair Shops in MA. or Southern NH.

My son's and I do a lot of fishing off the rocks and jetties on the North Shore in Massachusetts. We have discovered that this is very hard on the equipment and we need to have a couple of rods completely restored and new eyelets put on. Also have a few other rods that require new eyelets.
Any suggestions as to where I could go to have this work completed would be greatly appreciated.
In a couple of more months we'll be back at it so I have to get going on this before the stripers arrive.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome, Not really up on the area, although I have fished around the rocks and beach in Cape Ann, I would start off at a local B+T you trust and ask them for a local. Most , if they don't do it themselves, will have a guy they work with.
Hopefully someone from the area will chime in here with a bit more info. Good luck and keep us posted with whats happening up there when the bite is on. Joe

Thanks for the quick reply Joe.
I have already asked this question at the B&T shop we stop at in Salem. They only have a person part time that does eyelets only.
I have a custom rod that my father had built up in 1971 that I would like to have completely restored. Has a lot of sentimental value to me. It’s one of the few things that I have of his.
My preference would be to bring everything to one place if I could.

First have you ever thought about doing it yourself ?
It's really not that hard i just finished a 9' Lami a while back and with help from the guys here it was cake. If you want check out the pictures in the rod building forum. It also gives something to do in the off season

Martha at Surfland B&T PI will fix you right up.
I do not trust my gear to anyone else.
They are very busy so I would give them a call.
She even managed to fix a junk piece of Okuma I broke.
They also have several employees good at fixes and a guy who comes in.

Plum Crazy,

Thanks for the tip. I'm planning the road trip from Fitchburg to PI this Sunday. I hope they can get this done by the end of April.

Well I have to say that I was not that all pleased with the service I received at Surfland. This past February I dropped off four rods for repair. They indicated that they would call me when they were ready and they did not. I ended up calling them and drove from Fitchburg to pick them up yesterday.

My primary rod which needed a new eyelet tip was not done at all. I waited while they did it.

My Fathers old rod need to be completely refurbished/restored plus all new eyelets installed. Only the eyelets were done. Also the rod butt was missing and they did that also while I waited. I took the rod anyways and will take a stab at doing the refinishing myself.

The other two rods were done correctly.

Well I guess you won't be sending them a Christmas card this year.
I guess they didn't call you when they were done because they weren't done.
I am sorry you did not have a good experience.
I have never had a problem, but I am always in there.
It is important to find a B&T you like and trust.
They will bend over backwards for you.

I don't know what happened but I do know that when I was there last week they must have had 100 reels or more waiting to be fixed.
It's a busy time of year.
You had said you wanted them by the end of April, maybe they did not think there was a rush on it. It's only April 3rd.
I hope you find a shop that suits your needs.

When I dropped off the rods back on Feb 23rd they told me they all the rods would be ready in 3-4 weeks. They send them out to a person who does this work for them.

I called and asked for the status on my ticket number in April (5 weeks gone by) and they indicated that all were there at the shop and were ready to be picked up.

If they had told me it was going to be another 2-3 weeks that would have been ok as well.

I already do my own reels and have decided that going forward I'll learn how to do this myself. I'm retired so I have the time to do this now.

Try Granite State Rod and Reel in nashua, nh. it's a small shop on the side of a house in a residential area of south nashua. He has a nice selection of fresh water stuff and some salt. I had my baitrunner and a rod tip done there, no problem. 603-880-6031
