Default aground in Raritan Bay...

Glad there was no spill...

Tank barge stuck in Raritan Bay

Eyewitness News

(Raritan Bay-WABC, January 31, 2007) - A barge ran aground in the Raritan Bay between Staten Island and Perth Amboy, and officials were offloading the ethanol aboard.
Newscopter Seven was live over the scene. Officials say the barge, George Morris, was being towed out to sea by the tug Rowan M. McAllister when it ran aground outside of the channel in Raritan Bay near Ward's Point Bend at around 6:30 p.m. last night.
Eyewitness News has learned the barge was carrying 50,000 barrels of Ethanol aboard, but none appeared to spill into the water. There was no hull breach.
Authorities are offloading the ethanol onto another barge, and will then refloat the grounded vessel.
The cause of the mishap is under investigation.

Unless I am wrong, an ethanol spill does not cause any harm to the water as is is biodegradable. Still, glad there was none.

Did the channel cut move since I was there last watching tankers come and go....? Was the harbor pilot asleep at the wheel................?

Thank God no spill..............

However, about half the population of the spring run will be in AA meetings instead of feeding in the surf. The other half will be unusually easy to catch, but will swim crooked and puke when you beach them.
