Default Iliamna Lake Lake, Alaska 8-6 to 8-18

Figured I'd start a new thread, instead of gunk up the reports page and share some photos from my recent fly fishing trip to truly one of the last wild places in our country. And if anyone wants to know I'm the bearded idiot.

Thanks guys, fishing was really good, but I'm sure it's just insane right now with the eggs dropping, silver running hard now too. Two days before we had to leave salmon were pairing up and making their nests and ready to pop. Mostly just glad we could get Dad out there for his 70th, he's been wanting to fish out there for years.

Also if anyone has a recommendation on a fly rod for the salt, I'd appreciate it.

I'm putting that on the bucket list of fish. We did ask about the Iliamna monster.

there are many options for fly rods for the salt, but some of the best values are found with TFO.

best idea is to get together with some guys who fish the salt, or a club, and try before you buy.

you will likely want a 9 or 10 wt.

and something like the TFO Lefty Kreh TiCr X Series

but there are many options out there...

They were seriously in need of rain, the copper river would loose 3 inches of water a day. It's pretty amazing how little water the boats need to get up the river. What can you say about a place where the sun didn't set tip 11:30, thats a lot of hours to fish.

Temps for us were 68 -71 warm for that area Our guide told us the North East US had more snow than they did .

fantastic pics. I've been seeing pics of Alaska from my Bud who is, as we speak, bringing his boat to Fla. after two seasons of cruising Alaska. He' presently somewhere off of Southern California making his way to the canal. It's a looong journey
