Default Right handed or Left handed?

I am kind of new.. and now confused by what I have read on another forum.....

I am not asking about what people do to be different... or againest the norm... I am asking about the NORM... or the "right way" so to speak...

I am RIGHT handed in all areas of life... so I was told that my RIGHT hand and arm should cast and hold my rod and thus I would reel/crank with my LEFT hand... thus my reel handle is on the left side of my rod...... Is this how it is "supposed" to be....? seems to me I need my stronger RIGHT arm to cast, work big rods...... and fight fish... where as my whimpy left hand can reel / crank with no problem.....

set me straight please...............

Maybe I am not reading it right but it sounds like you saying it the same both ways.

Right handed with spinning, cast with the right, reel with the left, right handed with conventional, cast with the right, reel with the right.

Normally you crank with the left on a spinner and right on a conventional reel.
However on most spinners you can switch the handle to the right side if you want.

It's funny you brought this up stinky. Thanks
I take a lot of grief from others because I am right handed and I crank right handed.
I can't explain it but it works for me.
The correct way would be for me to crank with my left hand, but then I would lose a lot of fish . Believe me I have tried.
I am grateful the handles can be switched on the spinning rods.
I think that you do what ever it is you have to do to catch the fish.
I have got it down pat now so I just ignore what other people think.

Yep. Whatever feels "right" for you. I'm surprised that more people don't go for left crank conventionals.

I have gone over and over this in my mind since you brought it up.
Mainly because everyone says I am doing it wrong because I have to switch hands after casting.
I guess that while fishing bait it really doesn't make much difference.
It is when plugging that it gets a little complicated.
All I know is if my husband gets a hit and he is not watching his rod and I have to reel it in I have a very hard time.
I 'think' my left arm is strong but not coordinated. Very weird.
I am so used to this now that it seems very natural to me and very awkward to pick up a rod with the crank on the left.

Next conventional I get will be left handed. I hate having to change hands and am used to cranking with my left due years of fishing with spinners. Seems a little akward cranking with my right on the conventional I do have.

I'm also right handed and cast a spinning rod with my left hand and reel in with my right. With a conventional reel I cast with my right hand and reel in with my right hand. I've tried to cast the spinning rod with my right hand but can't master it but I can cast the conventional with both hands. Way back when I was a kid all the reels had the handles on the right side and I've never been able to make the adjustment for reeling left handed.

I always say whatever makes you comfortable. There really is no normal. Each person is different.
