Default Rod Rack. Cheap, easy on & off

Mike 1 & Viking16

Check out Cabelas master built mag hitch hall. As an example.
I have a 03 Explorer with a 1 1/4" reciever.To Hitch Hall type rack. (A freebie)
Added six 1 1/2 x 24" gray PVC electrical conduit with white end caps, drain hole in each.
Secured with self tapping metal screws. Drilled thru two 1/2" holes in each conduit to accommodate a long drill bit. Three on each side of rack, facing the rear. I carry a 90 or 120 qt. cooler in the middle, secured with 1 1/2" unistrut bolted to the steel mesh to keep cooler from moving. one on each side and one long one the back side.
All held down with "Good" rubber bungee cords. Movable to fit different configurations.
All material from a lowes type supply house.
A Cheap and efficient way to gain more space.
I can still open the lift gate and or the window.
Right now I have a 90 Qt. Cooler in the middle,a bucket on one side and a 24 qt. Rubbermaid cooler on the other.
Have been using this setup for four yrs. not a problem, easy on and off.
I always get questions and compliments.
I'm Sure I'm this type of fit out has been used many times. This what I came up with.

This is very similar to mine on my 02 Explorer.
(without the rod tubes.....mine are on the roof)

One of the things I did was get a 1 -1/2 inch to 2 inch "extension".....
I bought a hitch-haul that was 2 inch even though truck was 1-1/2

My platform sits out a bit further and I can move between the hitch-haul
and the bumber with no issues....gates open and close EVEN with coolers attached.

Nice job on the tubes....

bOb....ski

you should bend the hook side down that attaches to the bungee, and flip the bungees around so the end of the hook faces out on the cargo rack. this will keep the hook from damaging your cooler

my front tag is blocked with my cooler rack, but if i get stopped im gonna ask the cop if hes gonna give me a ticket in the winter when theres a snow plow up there?

again crimp them bungees and flip them around, it will save your cooler. when i used to run flatbed doing that to the bungees would save my tarps from getting ripped. it works great.
