Default Brigantine Pass

Hi guys, shout out to all veterans that fish Brigantine. This year, City Council is giving free passes to all vets. Only requirement is DD214, VA ID card is not enough. Normal paperwork is drivers license, registration, and insurance card. No all wheel drive cars, only 4x4. Thumbs up to Brigantine Council! Joe

Thumbs up Re: Brigantine Pass

Great to hear!

I'm not a vet, but next year at least I'll qualify for the senior discount

Just because they let out of state people in doesn't mean they will do anything for money.

Is Brig open for 4x4s all year or just off-season?

Just to be clear, there is still access to the North, just not as far North as the inlet.

The deal on brigantine is that there is a southern access which gets you to the surfing beach and the jetty, or another "back" access that gets you to the inlet/cove area (aka jetski beach). There is also the northern access that allows you all the way to wreck inlet when not all roped off for birds (as stated) but there is enough room usually to fish up there even with the ropes.

Beyond that, riptide b&t gets approval (with some help of long time fishing residents) to run tourneys in the spring and fall, which get special fishing permits for the entire front section. This year, if you entered the tourney, you have full access through June 14. The fall tourney runs from September sometime through the end of the calendar year (well the tourney ends a bit earlier but access is granted through the EOY). With those permits there are a few extra beach accesses available, such as at 12th st, and the hotel and a couple of others. Again, that is not part of the of general 4wd pass, but you are required to have the 4wd pass in order to utilize the tourney fishing permits for additional access.

To be crystal clear: the southern access, and the northern access, is good for the entire calendar year. You can purchase the next year's pass in the end of December of the previous year. They give you a map of the areas when you purchase the pass.

Discounts apply for early purchase of the pass, if you are over 60, and this year it was free for Veterans.

LOL... you did.

I've tried to be very clear that I'm opposed to the one day gangbuster tourneys that invade a beach, mugging everyone involved with rablerousing, fish harrassing, shoobies and bennies, and leaving nothing but crushed hopes and empty gulp containers (hope you can detect the humor in the previous )

I don't like the shop tourneys either, for much different reasons... and I really really don't like magazine and newspaper tourneys as those are all bogus (believe me, everyone knows there is cheating ... I'll be generous and let's say "stretch" the details, some way or another, rather than outright "cheating" ) in virtually every one of those tourneys... ( and I"M NOT TALKING ABOUT ASAC TOURNEYS... just to be clear )

As to Brigantine, Andy uses these tourneys to drum up business, of course, but more importantly for all, they created a way that the Brigantine council likes and approves of, allowing more usable beach for those who fish there, in general making it more pleasant for all (whether you're in the tourney or not) just by stretching out the buggies!

ok, I can take a deep breath now.. whew.
