I don't know. Sonofabitch fell off the nag right out of the starting gate. I think that Jockey will be mucking out the stables from now on.

It happens all the time. In fact, given the fact that these are 1,200-pound animals going roughly 40 miles per hour, I'm surprised it doesn't happen more. They spook, they clip heels, horses break legs... it happens in all kinds of different ways.

Any diehard railbird has at least a dozen "the jockey fell off my horse!" stories. The one in the Preakness was relatively harmless, as far as these things go: nobody got hurt, and that horse had very, very little chance to win anyway.

Though I did feel bad for people who bet on him. I was at a bar with my daughter, having a pint and a burger, and the people there had a pool where each participant got a horse for $20. The poor woman who got Bodexpress wanted her money back, because for her, it was over as soon as the gates opened. I asked her if she ever heard the old racetrack expression, They're off! You lose!, but she didn't think that was funny.

A variation of the same joke exists in horse racing circles. When talking about owning horses, the gag is:

How do you end up with a small fortune owining racehorses?
Start out with a large fortune!

Post positions for the Belmont have been announced. Odds for all ten horses are kind of close; no long shots. Where is my handicapper? Is he going to leave me hanging while he goes camping ? again?

Where is that carpet bagger, Garrity? Buggar is probably going camping again leaving me with no bet recommendations. If I spread three five dollar bets without competent advice and don't win nuthin. I'm going to invoice him. Better yet, I'll put some hard-to-see nicks in his leader. That should put some square wheels on his wagon.

I've been in my handicapping dungeon, working on tomorrow's races.

I'm 90% of the way to going all-in on War of Will. He reminds me of Afleet Alex and Point Given, two horses who had rough-trip losses in the Kentucky Derby, then rebounded to win the Preakness, and both won the Belmont big. War of Will looks to fit this pattern to me.

But I'll have my ducks in a row, as it were, by tomorrow. I'll post here when I do. Cheers!

Good to hear from yuz. I will call my friend, Nunzio, and ask him to give you more time. Otherwise, an offer you can't refuse.
