Default What To Expect Early October?

I will be staying at WildHorse at the northern end of the outer banks from October 4-9th.
Any recommendations on gear, rigs, artificials, what is usually running and the best Bait and Tackle in Corolla?
I Have been fishing New Jersey surf for over 50 years and have he typical surf gear and such. 7"- 10" poles and so on.
Thanks for any input.

Surf,

Although I am not familiar with fishing Corolla, I fish Hatteras Island, if it is like the rest of the area you can expect darn near anything and everything at that time of the year. I know that there are some tackle shops on 158 just south of where you would turn north on 12 to travel to Corolla. I always rely on the local tackle shops to get the right info on baits/lures/etc.

Good luck, if you like fishing NJ you will LOVE fishing the Outer Banks!

Bait of choice will be finger mullet. If you have a cast net bring it, they will be thick in the surfline in early Oct. Fish em live on a Carolina rig or chunked on a bait rig and you will be golden. Puppy drum, as well as big over slot Reds should be around as well as blues, speck, black drum and striper.

Thanks for the info! I have plenty of mullet and bunker rigs. Now due to limited space I will probably only be able to bring four rods. Just bring the 10 footers?

I will be in Chincoteague about that time and my buddy down there told me to get some smaller (4/0 or 5/0) hooks for the high low rigs if there are puppy drum around then...which there should be. I am taking the 10 footer and a smaller rod for fluke...it is still in down south. I am going to leave the plugging rods at home, as the stripers won't be there yet. I have a buddy in Corolla who showed me pics of guys catching blue fish off the beach at the north end of town...but access there is difficult at best. Good luck!

Really tough fishing last week. Did manage one good day last Monday catching several very small blues and puppy drum. The rest of the week was basically unfishable.
Left early Saturday morning.
