Default Melbourne Boat Harbor 1909

Below is my latest painting. It's from a post card and depicts Melbourne Boat Harbor in 1909. The freight sternwheeler "Alligator" is just backing away from the pier and the ferry/mailboat, "Ida May" gets ready to land and a group of local kids watch from Fisherman's Bluff. It's a far cry from what you see there today.

Default Grandpa's Boat

Grandpa's Boat is my 16X20" Acrylic on canvas painting of my granfather's boat the "Margaret D". Named for and christened by my mother, She sailed under the able hands of Capt. John A. Dahlmer and my uncles, Capts. Ronald, Larence, Eber, John Dahlmer, Jr. at various times but, growing up in Gloucester, was always Grandpa's boat.

The canvas depicts her returning from a gillnetting trip in 1914 as she crosses Dog Bar and is about to round Eastern Pt. Breakwater to enter Gloucester Harbor. While the painting is not for sale, Gicklee and Fine Art Prints are available from: http://bill-hubbard.fineartamerica.com/

Swan is a good artist. Some of his work is very good. This one is so so but I think it is the only surf scene that he may of done. At least, I don't remeber any others.

All. This is a friend of mine. Most of you know that I was once an artist but even at my best, I was nowhere near as talented as this gentleman. If nothing else, please simply view his work and let it speak for itself. Todd, I truly admire your work and I am a huge fan of yours. Thank you for sharing!

The name is Joe but thanx Mr Lagoonguy. EvyJoseph is derived from my kids names, Evangela and Joseph. Small world isn't it. Again, I can't say enough about his talent.

Your welcome and thanx for viewing.

Nice. I remember that cover and always liked it. I still have the book but, the cover disintegrated over the years.

Thanks, Steve. Here's a new one I just finished from an old woodcut done about 1868.

It's the schooner Hamilton leaving Mosquito Lagoon in Florida with her holds filled with cypres knees and a deck cargo of live oak planks - headed for the ship builders in Essex, Ma and Kennebunkport, Me. 10X15" Acrylic, Pen & Ink on canvas board.

Here's my last painting of the Gloucester fishing schooner Columbia crossing the finish line ahead of the Canadian Sch. Bluenose I in the 1927 International Fisherman's Races.

It's a 10X14" Acrylic, Pen & Ink on a stretched canvas.

I'm not artistic when it comes to drawing or painting. My art is taken with a camera. I figured I would share a photo I took in September while sitting on a beach at Sandy Hook drinking a cup of coffee watching the sunrise before I went to work.
