so how long do you think a baseball game should be ?

maybe the 7th inning stretch be eliminated ? singing " Take me out to the Ball game " How un American that would be ...there goes the game because people can't sit for any length of time because of medication adjustments or bathroom issues maybe when a pitcher has a blister on his pinky no reason for the mgr /coach /catcher / infield /umpire come to the mound ? After a home run no pointing up to the heavens & thanking the Lord...just go back to the dug-out ....anti Christian movement I see here . ( remember Tebow ? ) If they shorten the game can they reduce ticket prices ?
Instant Replay....that takes some time off the clock ! Lol If they can shorten the game ...they can drug test the politicians in Washington . We are getting the short end of the stick again.

keeping a game under 3 hours is important.

I mean, c'mon. Seriously go back and watch the pace of games from the 70s, and then watch one inning of a 2015 game and see the difference.

I do believe it's a combination of the pitchers, batters and managers, and the change to specialized relievers that have all contributed to the long games.

This change is a "step" in the right direction. Has nothing to do with ADD or meds, just common sense.

-3hrs is good agree , but pitching was better back then because the mound was @ a different height . Gave a better pitcher greatness . Now baseballs are better produced & bats maple w/ lazer production of the best woods selected. Not to mention the strike zone .

They don't want the pitching too good, now that they're finally cracking down on PEDs ( or so they say, except in cases like Ortiz)

But If they did, they could easily change the mound height.

It's all cheap talk, if they really wanted to shorten the game, they would go back to the way baseball was designed....without a DH.

Too many teams delete the available pitching, cut 4 teams....

Oh wait, its about the money. nevermind.

Is there any stat that shows AL games are longer than NL games? I'm a Mets fan and I can't watch the whole 9 now.

WB not sure of that stat : but more power to you hanging in there watching them for even 5 . Would like to see their club turn around . Haven been to a few stadiums & Ill say " City Field" is a very very enjoyable modern day ball park to see a game . It was a lot of fun .

Citi Field is fun to walk around during the game. I thought Shea Stadium was OK, too. Not a big advocate of the Mets keep moving the fences in because they have warning track power.

moving the fences is as much a part of baseball as cracker jacks and peanuts

I like being at games a whole lot better than watching on television, though that's true for most sports, except perhaps pro football... though I haven't been to a pro football game in 50 years.

I do NOT like the current Yankee stadium, though. It's sterile, hard to walk around, doesn't have the same "feel". Never been to citi field, but Camden Yards and Citizen Bank are both outstanding, though I hate the O's (sorry Doug) and the Phillies, at least it's fun rooting for visiting teams.

I didn't like Citi Field when it first opened. Took me about 8 innings to figure out why. The walls and trim were green, not NY blue. They have since repainted. Much better now. A non Met fan won't realize this but the Mets are the only team in the majors that don't have a yellow foul pole. It is NY orange and always has been by MLB privilege. 1964 Worlds Fair colors, NY Blue and NY Orange.

Going back to Frank's DH comment, I think pitchers have less time at the plate than DHs do. Get the bunt down and sit down or look at 4 pitches max.

True, and given the overall lower BA, lower runner count, run count, and a shorter game.

Edit: potentially.

Just trying to think through pitching strategy, an NL manager would likely take out a starter sooner, for a pinch hitter, but be less likely to switch and match pitchers to batters ( right/left games) due to pending pitcher plate appearances, at least have to think about it more.

That's why you see the double switch in the NL. Substitute a pitcher and a fielder at the same time when the pitcher's spot in the batting order is due up the next at bat and switch the fielder into the pitcher's spot in the order and the pitcher into the fielder's spot. That way they get a couple of innings out of the pitcher before they pinch hit for him. You won't see that strategy in the AL.
