Tough choice, with a floater, you can twitch it on top, mimicking a Wounded bait on top of the water, and a sinker, dropping back fluttering down, still looking wounded. I vote floater.

so far floater leads 3-0; I have a bunker color one that I did not know was sinking and agree it might resemble a wounded/dying bait but the floaters seem to be easier to work

How far are the fish? 3 oz sinker goes a bit further. BTW round or flat bottom? I still prefer the floater, Gibbs most days but my best fish have come on Guppy.

Today I swam both and neither of them got a swipe.
I prefer floating but sinking has its place

Most builders I know make pencil poppers the same way...heavily tail weighted to cast far but not enough weight to make the pencil sink completely.

This makes the tail side sit low in the water and the top of the pencil float out of the water if that makes sense.

Wondering who makes a completely sinking pencil?

Like John I always thought 99%of pencils were floaters...never used any but a floater..not a huge pencil fan but I keep it simple and use the Gibbs

Black Talon makes a sinking pencil called the 2nd bar pencil. Designed to cast far and allow the lure to work at different levels in the water column.

Ditto, any pencil, or any popper, has alway been floating.

Me, too. I always used a floater. I don't blind cast them. I have to see some splash action first.
