Fished West Haven Beach this morning 7:30-11:00. Pouring rain and persistant wind made for less than ideal fishing conditions. I did not expect to catch anything, and did not, but I had to get out since it was my first chance to fish the surf. Caught one sea robin. I did see one striped bass a few feet from the breakwater on the far left of the beach. There were a few beached bluefish.

I fished West Haven Beach again from 11:00 to to 12:15 and on Monday the 16th. I had no hits until 12:00. Between 12 and 12:15 I had three good hits but no hookups.(I'm getting used to the hi-lo rig and surf fishing in general.) I would have stayed longer but I HAD to go. I saw one small bass caught on a soft plastic. I fished the beach on the far left side of the sandbar near the jetty break water thing. When I bought bait, the owner said to try small chunks of mackeral because most of the fish are small. High tide was about 1:45.
