Default Commercial fluke fishery closed in Mass.

Got a call from a friend in Marthas Vineyard who said that Mass authorities closed the commercial fishery for fluke in the state, because the limit had been reached on July 19th. I wonder who is watching here in NJ???

Cool Re: Commercial fluke fishery closed in Mass.

Commercial fluke fishing closed in NJ.
Does that mean they will no longer be selling undersized fluke at the Belford co-op?

Is the Belford boat Bellatrix still in operation? Back in late 60's we saw it had a Huuuuuuge school of bass in the net within sight of North Beach at 8 am on a saturday. It and another boat just offshore were boarded by the Monmouth Beach marine police when the Belford MP boat was "unable" to respond. I seem to remember the two boats had 24,000 lbs of very large bass in their holds. Both crews arrested and ultimately fined $1000 per.

The Feds set the regs the state monitors the catch. 90% of the time the commercial guys are on the honor system, and get spot checked. They communicate faster and better with each other than a school girl with a new iPhone. The quota was most likely met a month ago.
