Default Bug Light Closed For Good!

Just heard from a fellow fisherman that access to the Bug Light area has been closed to fisherman for good. Can anyone confirm this, and how can we start a campaign against it??? Unbelievable. The rip is closed for half the bass season, and now a major area of the bay side off limits too?

Jim I was out there in the afternoon. There's a chain halfway up the "buglight trail" also, I took this pic at the north end. One of the regulars out there Bob, was fishing at the time they were setting the poles in concrete, was told to leave. The explanation, guys have been incroaching on the coast guard property along the beach leading to the pier, where the original sign said no trespassing. If those same people go back out, hope they get thrown in the brig.

Hey Jimmy. I already mentioned on some other sites that I'm willing to organize a response to this, hoping that cooler heads will prevail and that they will let us access that last 100 yards that includes the sandbar. Once again, everyone suffers because of a few idiots.

Fishermen are their own worst enemy. Also heard parts of red bank have been shut down, due to a few slobs.

Lots of fishermen/people do lack common sense/logic/responsibility but I am tired of the only response is to shut it down/close it off because of some bad apples. How about the police or rangers or whoever patrols the area that's getting violated actually start patrolling and busting violators/idiots! This "close it off" lazy mentality has run it's course

Maybe its an extension of the 9-11 anti-terrorist hysteria.

The young guys who escorted me off the sand bar told me that their commanding officer was tired of people wandering on to the base and ordered the chains, signs and the patrols. When I tried to make the case for fishermen they told me to complain to the National Park Service. I haven't heard back from them. If anyone would like to try_
https://www.nps.gov/gate/contacts.htm. I also complained to the guy in the attached picture. I had the same response.

This is terrible and that previous post about being lazy and why not just bust the violators makes a lot of sense.

When I fished Jersey I likely hit that area up between 33-50% of my trips.
Lots of great memories there (a not so great onewas having a spot light turned on me at 1:30 AM when I had waded out a 100-200 feet and called out of the water and given a ticket.....long story).

Very sad if it is really closed down. That walk, the small gnats kept the crowd down.
Good luck in keeping it open.

Took this pic close to the light one year.

Hello everyone,
I'm going to start a serious effort re. the Bug Light closure. IF anyone has any contacts, suggestions, ideas, PLEASE let me know. Found this article about Congressman Pallone's success in reopening the Bug years ago, and it clearly states it was to be permanent! https://pallone.house.gov/press-rele...ook-beach-area
