nice fillet pic

ton of fun when you find them! been a while but I love to get them on a 3wt when they're hitting. For some reason, there are places where snappers won't hit poppers and artificials, only live or frozen bait. And other places where they will hit anything that moves, even a bare hook. Who can figure?

Not to mention the little barrel swivel tied to the main line

Which fluke tournament are you doing? I only did one this year so far....because if the fluke fishing sucks I just switch over to catch & release blackfishing! lol - safe to say it has sucked locally

Hey bro! There is a tournament out of Robins Reef in Bayonne. My father in law signed us up since its local. So i figured we'd try our luck and if we caught anything worth it i can weigh it in on my way home.

As for this year in terms of keepers to shorts, i have had much better luck with the keepers this year vs last year. Last year tons of shorts and more fish but less keepers.

Thumbs up Re: July & August Fishing Reports 2017

Went out looking for snappers again. 5:30-8:30pm bayside, water was stained pretty bad, decent amount of floating cabbage. After trying for 1.5 hours I was ready to drive to cleaner water. Just before committing to go into the lot, I take 1 last look at the water and it starts going off. 2-3# blues harassing peanuts was a welcoming sight to see after what I thought was a desert with no life. The show when on for 1.5 hours with blues going airborne and all I was able to get was 1 fish, still grateful for that but I thought I was going to be able to get a bunch more in the cooler, perfect grilling size. I threw the bag, match tge hatch stuff, bottom, middle, and top. there was just waaaay too much bait...

On Sunday I took out three first time fishers/boaters.

The weather was so nice I wanted to do a little combo trip in the ocean consisting of blackfish/sea bass/triggerfish and porgies.

Ran out front and the beginning of the long period hurricane swells got them all sick before we even dropped anchor.

Ran back into Raritan Bay settling for porgies.

Drop and reel fishing for 1.5hrs and then the puking started again so I decided to call it a day.

Still managed 80+ fishing on a 10" size limit.
