Bill, did you try pork rind or otter tail strips? You would think that they would hold up better than plastics or hair

Last two days I have been in the back of Moco, searching for schools of peanuts. When I found some I cast netted a few and then let them drift out on a float rig. All in all the last I was able to catch 20 plus cookie cutter fluke, all 17 inches, on the live lined peanuts. Beautiful healthy and thick fish. All release safely largely due to using circle hooks.

Bill, for tog I've found it doesn't matter the wind per se, but the water clarity. The cleaner the water the better the bite, at least inshore (and I guess offshore, though we can't tell as easily about what's going on down there offshore).

That said, around here the wind direction affects the clarity based on what direction churns up what, and a few other things for a couple of my favorite spots (SW == bad, generally)

Have fun, I've not started on tog yet, but will soon.

oh yeah, owner or gami hooks... for me 4/0 seems to be the sweet spot, but I also like the "thin wire" strong version, not those honking thick "bait" hooks... just saying.

One more thing: check your line, check it often, and oh yeah, check your line. You're looking for *any* frays or scrapes and for good knots after you've had your bait stolen for the 27th time.

Remember, the big ones don't get big by being stupid.

And JB is obviously the master here, I'm just adding a few things...

edit: throw in a "report" here:

7 dozen+ in about 45 minutes. Chowdah to little neck and all sizes in between

Greenheads tried to carry me away a few times.

Happy birthday Jim!

Definitely not, restricted areas are meant for commercial clammers that have a permit to use the area as an intermediate growing area ( as I understand the reg)

I think there are water quality issues for harvesting for direct consumption from those areas.

Moco In the back, dodging the lightning and thunder boomers 6P to 8P, I retreated several times to the shelter of the truck. Outgoing tide caught several flat ones at 17 inches on high low rig with plastic. I did see some very large blow ups on the numerous peanuts, but had to retreat to the truck with the weather.

Happy birthday Bay, and many more!

Three of us headed out early this morning.

Started of by porgy fishing being selective on what we kept. XFished on aXvoluntary 11" sizeXw/20 porgy per person. XTook longer than expected; thereXwasn'tXas many big porgies on this piece as we have been seeing recently.

Buddy had 5 weakfish anchored less than 20ft away.

Nice surprise blackfish on a porgy rig.

Switched over to fluke which was hot from 10:30 - 1pm until the tide changed and it became wind against tide. XCalled it a day around 2pm after drifting for over an hour without a hit trying to finish off our limit.

Peanut bunker was the hot ticket today - no takers on gulp.

Never left the bay!
