Fished the 2nd Annual King of the Creek fluke tournament out of Morgan creek with Alex Obolsky, Rui Goncalves, and Kevin Kolovich.

With tough fluke fishing in and around Raritan Bay we decided to dedicate the entire trip to a known big fish spot that produces quality over quantity.

Our three biggest fish were good enough to take 3rd place for the second year in a row weighing in at 6.3, 5.8 and 2.9lbs.

Only had 4 keepers, releasing two NJ sized keepers and about 6 other shorts on the day.

We had a great time and will be back next year hoping to place again.

Got out this morning from about 6-9:30 on the yak in a somoco river and had a ball with short flatties on the trout rod paired with a 500 reel. Using anywhere from a 1/4 to 3/4 oz buck tail or jig head tipped with either pink gulp swimming mullet, locally trapped baitfish or both I had non stop action. All shorts. Saw a nice weakfish caught by a friend on worm underneath a bobber when I got there

Out today in the kayak 6 total fluke biggest two at 17 inches and 18 with a pinched tail...too close to call... so he went back too bad he was very plump...other than that the bite was brutal slow...the wind forecast predicted 6-10....but it blew a little more chopping up the bay where I was so conditions were not the most fun but a bit sporty...also fished a spot that last year on the first week of July produced wonderfully but now just seems dead...only saw a few other kayakers out where I should expect a horde and all the headboats stayed spread out on the sand lumps not even burning their gas to run outside

Moco, Afternoon on a jetty. Low tide to incoming half way up. Three short flat ones on plastic. Beautiful clear water with six foot visibility. Beach was packed.

Ventured to west Long Island Sound on Sunday 07-09 on kayak...7am to 3 pm...there were 4 ( Roger, Lee and Chris) of us and target fish were porgies...found them on many spots...caught close to max of 30 with self imposed minimum size of 12"...by-catch were fluke (caught a 3" fluke...can you beat that?), sea robin, sea bass and even striper bass... beautiful weather with low humidity ...water temps were around 72F with light breeze...a lot of people on the beaches and the boats were all over with jet skis buzzing around...some of them were really careless...one captain did not want to slow down passing several yard next to a fellow kayaker...he almost flipped him but he did not forget to curse him as well as he passed by...it is a dangerous world out there in hot summer days...

went out saturday morning 6:30am-1pm.... stayed in a nice spot in RB and hit a total of 8 fluke (5 shorts) 3 keepers 19in-22 1/2in. Headed back out sunday and went right back to same spot and it was dead. Moved around a bit in RB with nothing to show for it besides large sea robins. Finally decided to head out front and found a nice pack of fluke concentrated in deeper water. Grabbed another 3 keepers and about 4 shorts. Fish were between 20in and 22in.

Nice catching Tug!

Sunday morning report: hit my spot at sunup, was a little discouraged with the amount of grass in the water, but as the tide came it cleaned up fairly nice and the grass stayed concentrated in one spot. Picked out 27 fish with only one hitting 18" (the girlfriend was not happy I released it, even though we have 6 fish in the freezer ) great morning until the masses all showed up at once around 9:30, then had people swimming right under where I was casting, about thirty people on the rocks close by and 6 speargun guys swimming around, time to go home! Also a ton of spearing in the water being harassed by blues and a few big rays made an appearance.

And people ( not you guys). Measure the fish quickly and release it back, you don't need to measure every short, six times, it's not going to magically grow in the 5 minutes you spend screwing around with the fish dying on the sand.

Fished the River above Delaware Water Gap this morning. Lots of stripers on the surface but couldn't coax a bite. Caught 25-30 smallies, many small ones but a few really nice ones as well. The added bonus was the bald eagle that sailed across the river very close by...

I told my Capt. Our best chance at finding fish is to find lockjaw first.

Moco Outfront in the afternoon at dead low tide and the first two hours of incoming. Three short fluke, but observed half a dozen striped ones cruising the trough at the lip after sand bugs. Back at it tomorrow.

Moco Late afternoon fishing the last two hours of outgoing, in the rain. SSE wind with waist high swell and lots of white water I caught three short flat ones before the dead low and the cow nosed rays showed themselves running the trough.
