Been a ton of gannets diving around us while we are togging past two days. Had 3 stripers eat our crabs today so I would assume they are around in good numbers albeit being on the smaller side.

Tomorrow morning I'm going to go to the Hook to irritate some rats if I'm lucky.
Low tide is around 0930.

fished 4 blocks in Lavalette from 1:30-3:30; white jig head with 4inch white/pearl sand eel plastic with a sand eel teaser; numerous hits; landed 7...4 on the jig, 2 on the teaser and one on a darter; Basstard been bugging me to use Mag Darters so I figured give it a try; put on the small white/red head and on the retrieve I slowed down and went close to the wash to check the action....and saw the flash as a schoolie smashed it literally in front of me on first cast; sometimes it's best when you don't know what you're doing

Fished a few areas last night in MoCo. Schoolies are still around pretty thick. I got there a little late so I only had about 30 minutes of good water. So much sand has pushed in recently. Caught 1, dropped a few others.

I would try the Big Mohawk and avoid weekends on a party boat like the plague! I know he usually limits the number of guys onboard and sails early. I usually see him leave the inlet around 5:30-6. I would call ahead to get more info.

I saw the guys on there doing well last Sunday. Been a tough fall for togging here in NJ.

Fished Sunday in some tough conditions but we managed to jig up 35 keepers to 8#, only keeping our limit of 24.

We released the three biggest tog of the day all around 7/8# and a couple stripers that kept messing with our crabs.

Yea i was looking a either the big mohawk or the dauntless, but it seems that the dauntless isn't really targeting blackfish. thanks for the insight

I think the Dauntless is more of a deep sea fishing boat targeting sea bass, porgies, cod, ling, ect.. in deeper water wrecks where blackfish is more of a by-catch than a target.

Ocean Explorer is targeting blackfish, also out of Belmar.

Try the Right away 3 out of Neptune. Small boat bit great captain and crew.
Fish Stix is a great 6 pack boat.
I'd do the mag gaffer before a party boat. Never fished with him but he always has good reports.

Mr. Barbosa mentioned "Been a ton of gannets diving around us while we are togging past two days."
When I was at the Hook earlier in the week it was very quiet, no fishermen and no birds in sight. Suddenly there was a cloud of gannets and gulls 500 yards north of me and 300 yards out, and it looked like they were dropping at 100 birds a minute for about 4 minutes. It looked especially cool because the clouds opened up and let a shaft of sunlight through to highlight the action. They sat in the water to digest for another couple minutes and then it was back to nothing alive in sight. Sand eel blow up?

On another topic, what's your opinion of the likelihood of finding any sort of fish "in the back" like on the back side of IBSP this time of year? I've heard stories of resident fish hanging around but wonder if it's worth the drive if a nice day turns up. I was thinking of maybe trying bucktails and such. Thoughts?
