Yarddog, you inspire me!

I finally have my $5 Lamiglass 9' 9w (it had no guides on it when I bought it) all rigged up and ready to go. I made a few Clousers and bought a handful of flies and poppers at Orvis where I had them load my reel with 200 yards of 30# backing and a good SW intermediate line. I've watched a couple hours of YouTube videos. What I've never done is wave a fly rod near the water. It doesn't look that hard!
This weekend I'm taking it to a lake to scare some sunnies, but next week I will hit the salt!

Joe,

Orvis Learning center has great instructional videos and if you can, hook up with a flyfishing club, you'll get a faster head start, though it is certainly possible to go it alone.

Think the nearest club to you is the Atlantic Saltwater Flyrodders, home of Bob Popovics and Steve Fahrer, if I recall. http://aswf.info/

Moco outfront in the rain high tide to an hour into the move down. It was raining with a choppy surf and a NW wind. Same good results with the mole crab fly. 9 short flat ones and one with stripes all still swimming.

Ok, I've got my 9w fly rod rigged to take to the lake for my first ever attempt.
I will almost certainly look silly, but might catch something anyway.
Yard dog, I want what you're doing!

Navesink River on a kayak yesterday...6am to 2pm...solo trip...warm. breezy day with temps in low 80ies and water reaching 74F...probably my last trip there this season...16 short fluke and 2 small blues...no keeper...used killies and gulp...tried all the holes but could not find a fish over 18"...it is time to move to the bay and try my luck there
