Not an east coast or surf report but was in Colorado skiing last week and brought my waders and a 5 for trout spinning rod. Fished the Frying Pan River and got a trout on Fri and Saturday. One was enough. Got the first on a trout magnet after many adjustments of length and weight. The second came on a nymph I got at a local fly shop that put me on my fish. One each day was enough to satisfy my before skiing. All were hardly moving and clearly visible in deep slow moving pools that had a little current. The only time I saw anyone close to shore it got spooked like an albi and was in a deep section. Water was gin clear. Good times. Now looking for a stream by SAlt lake city for Thursday morning before my flight. People can?t believe I don?t fly fish out here.

If I can?t buy any or dig them this early I might try a few of these behind a casting egg, or just throw one of Rui?s gliders.

Bay,
Here is my first attempt at a sand flea/mole -sand crab. If I get better at palmer wrapping the hackle and use a lighter pink along with the white and tan hackle, I believe it will be better. The wood duck feather on the back is a dead ringer for the shell of the crab.

Trash that egg sinker and put that fly on your fly rod..... I know you have one YD

a note on Fishing Regs; Florida snook season opened Feb 1 and regs are designed to PROTECT the fish not the fisherman; keepers are 28-32in; let the bigger ones go; also a zero bag limit for Captain and crew on a for hire trip; would love to see a better slot approach in NJ for stripers, like one daily 26-32in or so

No, Bill, up here not only do the Captains *and* mates keep fish on many for-hire boats, every whines about the "huge population of stripers" outside of 3 miles, as if this is something new. So they are lobbying to try to open up Federal waters for recreational harvest.

Just for everyone's information most counties on the gulf coast of Florida are catch and release only until May 10th for snook and redfish. This is an effort to replenish the stocks after the red tide. So basically when the ban is lifted the snook will be closed anyway. If you're not sure what areas this affects contact the FWC. I don't believe the east coast of Florida is included in this.
