I don't think the East Coast has the red tide response. I really do like the idea of keepers being slot fish so we limit keeping the larger breeders. I know there are a lot of things to be included in protecting the fish but this one seems very simple

They do a pretty good job with regulating the fishery down here. In the past 10 years they've had fish kills from red tides and unusual cold snaps. They are fast to adjust the regs and the fish usually bounce back. If you're looking to put food on the table I'd recommend more of a deep sea trip rather than inshore fishing. It is ridiculously hard to catch a slot snook during the open season. Redfish seem a little easier with the 18-27 inch slot. I've thrown a lot of fish back that were over slot but I'm glad to do it.

agree with you; reports here show cleaning up the water has produced a larger than normal number of trout (weakies) are spawning; in the River

The back bays and rivers open up for bass on Friday, but with the water temp bounceing around 41 degrees, I don?t see me catching until the Irish eyes are smiling.

guys drifting worms for perch in the rivers down here have been picking up the occasional striper almost all winter, except after the couple of real cold stretches we had (the 10F night/morning back to back day stretches)

Is Oyster creek still pumping out warm water? With the 1st fish tourney's I wonder if we will still be seeing the "nuclear" bass photos popping up everywhere again?

Good news is that one shop is running a photo catch and release part of the tourney this year.

edit: ok looked it up and seems that Dave "got religion" ... which is fantastic news!

2019 Absecon Bay Sportsman Center, 1st Striper of the Season Contest.
Be the first angler to catch and weigh in a legal Striper here and win a $200 Gift Certificate

1st Legal Striper Weighed in a $200 Gift Certificate
•2nd Legal Striper a $100 Gift Certificate
•3rd Legal Striper a $50 Gift Certificate

Changes for 2019:

1st Legal Striper Release of 2019. Go Live on Facebook and measure and release a striper over 28”. Share the saved LIVE Video to Absecon Bay Sportsman Center www.facebook.com/abseconbay , win a $100 Gift Certificate.

I will not be giving out Gift Certificates for the first, 20# and 30# stripers this year. I believe everyone should be able to catch, keep and show off a legal fish, however I do believe that we should be changing to a slot limit regulation and everyone should be encouraged to release large breeding females.

As the Oyster Creek Nuclear Power plant has been closed, there is no need for any problems with, “Warm Water Fishing “

Rob, "officially" no, however, I drove by a few times over the winter and the inlet side was frozen while the outlet side was flowing.
But I'll let you know after the 1st

I did a few casts today to test two rods that I tweaked, throwing a magdarter, joebaggs, 1,2, and 3oz poppers. 40 degrees with the wind in my face. 10 minutes and the hands were numb. It?s going to be tough baiting clams and worms with mittens on .

I've got a conference in AC tomorrow and Wednesday. I'm bringing a rod and some tackle, but don't really harbor much in the way of expectations.
Anybody know a honeyhole I should check out if it's not iced over?
