Hit a white unadorned bucktail right at the lip. Thought I snagged something at first then it came up to my feet in seconds. Finished yesterday off with two short fluke one on the bucktail the other on glow swimming mullet on dropper. Tonight I started with the same rig and got a 14 inch fluke on the bucktail. Then switched to sand crabs because the fluke spit one up and got a lively 17 inch striper.

this the type of fish?

9 total keepers? That's outstanding for this season... if you were down here it would be 20 or 30 to 1 ratio The bottom is paved with 10" fish.

That was my first thought and they bury themselves in the sand, giving the first impression of being snagged.

Went fluking yesterday in Raritan Bay with buddy of mine on kayak...6.30am to 3pm...awesome weather conditions with heat being the only bad thing. Water temps went over 80F!!!. By far the best day of fluking in the season if not ever for me...caught over 60 shorts with 4 keepers at 2-22",1-21' and 1-20"...had 4 doubles with fluke and 2 doubles with fluke and sea robin..used killies and white 4" gulp but it seemed that gulp out-fished killies...slowly trolled with two high low rigged rods and a times at least one rod had a fish on....sometimes had fish on both...this is what I call a fluke fishing at its best...if only the ratio of shorts to keepers would be a little bit better but I am not complaining

No, that was 9 fluke for 4 guys. I was just bragging that I had the other 7 fish. I had the one keeper and 6 shorts I had the advantage of practicing during the week with 35 shorts and 1 keep off the beach in 2 days. Not bragging, just sayin

Moco. Dawn Patrol on the fly. There was an outgoing tide and the water has cleaned out. The tea colored tinge is gone. I caught half a dozen micro fluke on a red and white half and half. They ignored everything else I threw at them.

Bill,
A half and half is: Half Clouser
deep minnow and half Lefty's Deceiver. It can be tied in many color combinations.
You might have something there on the Daredevil. I caught my first fish ever on one when I was ten YOA on a Garcia conolon rod and Mitchell 304....over half a century ago, but you never forget the first one!

It's funny, I always have an mental adversion to using a red and white anything... it's usually my last resort no matter the style of fishing, even though I've actually caught on { plugs, poppers, flies} that combo.

And Don, you really like to travel
