Default College...

Coming this fall I will attending UMass Amherst. I live in Jersey now and do a ton of fishing. I was just wondering if I will get any surfishing done. I will have a car with me so that is no problem. Is amherst a bear of a drive? with college will i even have time to.

I attend Salem State College in Salem, MA. Salem is right on the coast so I do a lot of fishing in Salem Harbor. UMASS Amherst is about 90 minutes drive from Boston, so that's how long you will need to travel atleast to get to the coast and fish. I caught my firsk keeper striper of the year myself today at the Charles River Dam in downtown Boston. A whole bunch of tourists took pictures and stuff. Have fun in college .

Spring run of stripers come right up to the Holyoke dam on the Ct. river. That's about 10 miles south of Umass. Shad are running at the same time. It's not tidal there so you need a Ma license. For fall you'll need to head south to Ct. shore or east to ME/NH or Ma coast. Figure on a couple hours drive to either. Longer if you try outer Cape.

Yeah good advice here, the CT river is your only hope for striper fishing close to school. The good news is you are not too far from some really good freshwater fishing around those parts, I know, It's not the same, but it's there. Besides at UMASS, you will be lucky if you are in any condition to go fishing with all the partying that you will be doing! .

I graduated in 2002. There's close freshwater fishing, but for me anyway, it was too expensive and too inconvenient to saltwater fish from there. The stripers will be there after you graduate.

You'll have a good time. Watch the UMass and Amherst cops though.

My one piece of advice, and I should charge for this, is to go to Smith college in Northampton for parties. Just show up on a weekend night and find a girl to sign you in - 90% of the girls walking around will help you get in to a party if you're nice. It's an all girls school and they are the horniest women I've ever met. We actually have had to launch rescue missions to get friends who they wouldn't release. If I had a dollar for everytime I heard "You're never going to believe what just happened to me", I'd be rich. They're really high on themselves, and you need to find the right angle, but it's worth it.

They used to have an "immorality" party every halloween that you need to be at.
