Default what size power winch?

Was wondering if anyone knows what size power winch would be suitable to use with my 98 ford expedition. I saw a 3000 lb winch and was thinking of buying and mounting on a portable receiver mount so if need be I could slip it into my front mount receiver or rear for that matter and pull myself or someone out. Would a 3000 lb winch be suitable for someting like this?

No, I don't think so. I used to know the formula, but 2 1/2 times GVW rings a bell. What would you use to anchor with if you had to pull yourself out?

From what I'm seeing here - - > http://tinyurl.com/4uj936h
Bob and I both think 3,000lbs is not enough for your Expedition.

I was more or less just thinking if i had it and the 3000 lb was suffiecient I couild use another truck as an anchor (if available). I saw one which looked inexpensive and that was why I asked. Not a big deal if it didn't work. I run Brignatine so there is usually someone there I could anchor too I was thinking.

Yeah I saw these Joe pretty neat but are they really worth it in Brignatine? I mean there are a lot of people who go up and down the beach and I'm sure (as I would be) anyone of those people would lend a truck as an anchor (at the least).

If you attach a snatch block to one of those anchors and back to your truck you double the power of the winch.

Persistence, you might be better off getting a bungee type recovery strap. Like you said, lots of guys run Brigantine and MOST will stop and lend a hand. 3 more weeks until the first Brigantine run of the season!

I have a recovery strap. Just saw a winch which I thought was inexpensive and that's why I asked.
I can't wait for the spring run. I just started surf fishing this fall and I didn't have much luck in the striper department. I'm hoping the spring run is better.
