Default Sstripper guide distance to spin reel spool face

I am building a medium heavy 13' spin rod for long distance casting with braid. What size stripper ( first) guide and how far from the spool face? Any advice will be welcome.

That all depends on what reel you plan on using. The best thing you can do is build the handle/reel seat then tape on your guides you want the first guide to be placed so when you cast the line does not slap against the rod. The few surf rods I have built have either a 50 or 40 for the first guide. Play around with the spacing of the guides once it cast how you want than do a static load test to make sure of a nice even bend without any sharp angles.

What type of guides are you planning on using? Fuji low riders require a definite distance from the reel seat. Conventional or Spinning? Concept system or old school? First build? Keep us informed, and good luck, Joe.
