I believe it would weaken the set up and offer no benefits but, then again I am a novice builder.. After your wraps are done epoxying around the guide foot well will do the job of sealing it.

Are you talking about color preserver or epoxy? Like Joe said, what purpose would it serve to put epoxy on the underwrap? Just curious. Joe.

i meant apoloxy one of the guys i met says he does that. So wanted to check with you guys bc you guys are great builders. I have one more question for your guys. I really appreciate the help. Im going to put the xflock grip on my pole. Once you put down the double sided tape, do you peal the strip off or will taht melt when you put the heat gun to it. Bc i just tried a sample piece and i removed the strip and my grip got stuck on the tape and i couldnt pull it where i wanted to . Thank u guys for your time i really appreciate it. You should send me a bill! lol. thanks again fellas

It is ok to put a light coat of Epoxy on the under wraps before wrapping guides on. If you ever have to replace a guide it will make it easier to remove the over wrap.

you need to peel the paper off the tape before you heat the shrink wrap. Or use epoxy under the top and bottom of the shrink wrap. do not use fast set epoxy, you need some working time

Reasons to epoxy an underwrap:
1) Epoxying an underwrap makes it easier to work/pack the thread when wrapping the guide
2) The epoxied underwrap protects the blank from guide feet digging in during rod flex.
