Default July & August 2018 Fishing Reports

Well Summer has arrived.

Fluke, Rays & Sharks seem to be the main catch in the surf with an occasional Bass or Blue.

As always don't be to specific of an area your fishing.

We enjoy reading your reports. Surf, boats, fresh water are all good.. Pictures are even better.
Good luck, have fun and be safe.

Striped Bass or Hybrid Striped Bass
1 fish at 28 inches to less than 43 inches
1 fish at 43 inches or greater

Moco: 6p to sunset. I was in the back by a tidal creek with an incoming tide. The Raritan bay was as calm as bathwater. There was peanut bunker everywhere. No luck on any gamefish. The peanuts were happy.

Had a fun offshore trip over the weekend.

Kept 10 YFT and tossed back a bunch of smaller ones, released a small BFT and landed a healthy big eye.

I'm angling for a run to IBSP on Thursday for the dawn high solunar activity period.
It's a good shot for both front and back efforts and if the wind cooperates I just might do alright. We'll see.

John doesn?t eat fish. The fisheries council is reviewing pics on ss to determine if they should Administer a fishing Moratorium or quota on him. He does know how to catch fish.

Threw back a bunch of smaller yellowfin that were keepers. Could have easily kept two more. Lol

I am not a big fish eater myself.

Did some fluke fishing from the kayak in RB on 4th of July...6am to 3pm...ocean was like oil in the morning, light wind in afternoon...overcast , not that humid...water temps were in 80F...wow...around 2 dozen shorts with 4 keepers ...2 keepers barely over 18" were released...22" and 21" were kept..typical fare...white and pink gulp with buck-tails...25-30 ft of depth ...edges of the channels...it seems that the fish moved deeper due to raise in ocean temperature...low tide and incoming...and of course a lot of sea robins

did the boat thing in the backbay behind Ventnor/Margate... took a while to find life... moved 4 or 5 times without a bite, but once I did, hit a ton of shorts plus 2 keepers, one very decent 23".

had a tough seabreeze to overcome, wind against tide... when I could setup a good drift, I had non stop hits (think the bottom was paved with short flundies... probably more keeper sized around, just getting through the smalls was tough)

plenty of cow nose rays around, thankfully I didn't hook any.

As ComputerUser wrote, the bay water was oily flat this morning, with lots of eel grass floating around. I had some excitement with a few hits on a small popper I threw for awhile, maybe blues or short stripers. Then the grass got worse as the tide approached bottom and I gave in and went out front to try for flatties at the beach drop off. No joy with lots of grass there, too. It sure was a beautiful morning, though, and the osprey were bringing in plenty of bunker for their little ones.

Moco Late afternoon in the back near a tidal outlaw with a falling tide. There was a south wind and the bay was flat with some ripples. Three short fluke that were quickly released as I was wading. Did not see the peanut bunker at all this time.
