That leaves an opportunity to get to the Hook a tomorrow, though.

I'm working hard on this Albie thing.

Got out last night for about an hour and half. Plenty of white water and about two hours into the outgoing. There were a bunch of snapper blues in the wash but no bass. However, about 150 yards offshore, I saw a long, slender looking fish do a vertical leap out of the water, straight up, about 3-4 ft. It, or a few of them, did the vertical jump in the same area about 5-6 times, consecutively, before disappearing. I have no clue what it was. Definitely not Albies.

Down on LBI for a week. Tried fishing low tide this morning, huge current from the north. Cant hold bottom on anything with bait, threw some metals into the wind, nada.

Did you try a rattle trap, or snag&drop. A 3/0 treable works fine. Maybe BenGardner will chime in

No just the usual, big shad, small shad and some poppers. Its not very deep where I usually fish. I dont have a rattle trap but will check them out at the store.

Did some fishing off the kayak in western LIS on Saturday...cloudy and drizzly day...water still warm around 69F...standard catch included porgies, schoolies, snappers, fluke , sea robin and the first tog of the season ( around 14") which was promptly released since the season starts on Thursday in NY state...
On different topic, went yesterday for walk with some friends on Asbury Park boardwalk around 5pm...there was a relentless blitz of small snappers attacking large school of small spearing and with pretty large surf the sand was full of flopping little translucent fish...seagulls were having a ball...it lasted for an hour...no signs on larger fish there

Out today for a few hrs, nice bt weather, but no takers. Highlight of the night was watching fluke in the wash launching out of the water chaseing peanuts, mullet and rainfish. Casting into that chaos I did manage one fluke.

I would give up the whole month of May, to be able to fluke the whole of October. Best shot for a large flat one from the surf this month.
