Default The nine million dollar cooler/rod holder rack questions!

The nine million set of questions.

I'm tired of the commercial crapola cooler rack holders that are more or less a ground clearance killer sand plow, instead of a tactically functional rack.

The wife and I frequent Ocracoke and OBX in one of our Jeeps (we own 7 right now)

What I want/need is a high clearance front bumper mounted cOoler rack that has the ability to hold 3-4 rods and an umbrella. I'm not hauling dead bodies so I don't need a coffin size cooler, rather I need a 20 quart flip lid mounted high above my winch roller fairlead and my horizontal jack mount.

I'm thinking about getting a haul master aluminum cage rack at harbor freight and cutting it down, and rigging all of the front bumpers (ARB bull bars on the 5 non snow plow equipped rigs) with a center located 2" receiver bracket of some kind fabbed up to the bumper!

I want to see pictures! Lots of them! Of your setups!

Question Re: The nine million dollar cooler/rod holder rack questions!

Sounds like a plan but I would also purchase a pop rivet gun or a kit box of nuts, bolts and washers plus Loctite for on the road repairs...

Wouldn't it make more sense to design exactly what you want and take it to an aluminum welder for an estimate?

Yes. It makes more sense to design exactly what I want! But I'm almost in this predicament that I need to know what I don't want before I know what I do want and this is my first experience with such a rack on the family vehicle. The cooler has always been on the roof and the rods were always in ski racks on the roof and sand spikes on the beach.

I saw the rivet construction deal. The rack is gonna ride on the back to get to OBX then get moved to the front while we are there so we can get in and out of the rear.

What issues weak points are there with the rivets? Pictures?

Ok got this thing out of the box and looked it over and it is a total piece of sh!t. If I cut it down a little bit it might work, but I think I'm going to see the fab guy tomorrow! Gonna go buy a brand new igloo and let him fab up a shelf to strap it too!

Had this custom made by a guy in Browns Mills, NJ. He did a great job and can do whatever you want. I'm actually going to get back to him and have him custom make a rear carrier. If you are interested let me know and I'll find his contact info.

Google shooter rod racks or Reynolds rod rack and you can get exactly what you want/need.

I got my cooler rack and hitch bracket today from my fab guy! I went a tad over kill on the strength and attachment system but all in all I
Happy with everything but the price... Spent $500 and no rod holders on this rack yet.

I'm gonna put 4 rod holders, 2 on each side, on this rack to get started and I'm going to make a little round table about 18" in diameter with an umbrella holder in the middle of it to attach to the front of the thing!
