"I always fish it this way..." He landed a few fish without a problem but then he got this bigger one next to the boat that was easily in the 35-45# range and busted the leader when we tried to net it. He finally loosened it after losing that fish
Two chunking trips in a row with exactly 25 bass on each trip.

No shortage of bunker in the bay. Probably the most I have seen all year.
This bass looks like it was caught and released a couple too many times.
Sent him off with another hole in his mouth...curious to know exactly how many times he has been caught.

Re: May & June 2018 Fishing Reports
Moco Afternoon dead low tide. West wind waist high swell. The clearest, cleanest water of the year, possibly from a moon tide
Using casting gear and hammered spoon with pink clouser teaser with plastic eyes. Four short fluke and four sundials. Clear water enabled me to sight many striped ones cruising the trough with their heads down, I assume looking for sand bugs, which were present at the surfline. There were some calicos.

wet, wind knots, and all the rest....
...and telling outlandish lies to all and sundry , not to mention getting deeply conflicted about the difference between "go to work" and "go fishing."

Moco Dawn patrol. Out front west wind flat water with texture and ankle high swell
Casting gear with the hammered spoon and plastic eyed, white and pink clouser.
One short flat one a dozen sundials and several large sea robins. It was low tide when I started. Left at 9am when the throngs began to arrive. Happy fathers day to all

Re: May & June 2018 Fishing Reports
Fished Friday night only to find that the new moon sucked most of the bass we were catching out of the bay!
Hardy was able to pull our only bass of the night which went 40# on the boga before being released.

This is like the tale of two cities! Giant bass by boat at night and puny fluke by day from the beach!

I never had much luck on early season fluke from the surf. Sometimes we would pull a decent size fish from the back bays but it's hard to fluke most of the back from land because of all the weeds.
Most of my keeper fluke out of the surf came from late August into September when the bait is usually abundant in the wash.
Are you seeing any bait in the surf now?

Re: May & June 2018 Fishing Reports
JB, Only bait I am seeing out front are small sand bugs and small cailcos. Not anything else yet. I have caught some nice fluke to 5lbs in the surf in May and June, but not in the last two years. I have caught large ones more frequently in the fall, like you say, but not in the last two either. I miss the days when I could float a live mullet on a sliding salmon float and catch them at will, right around the corner from where we last met in the sand!
I will not give up out front, but will have to spend more time in our neighborhood out back.

Re: May & June 2018 Fishing Reports
Moco Afternoon Out front Outgoing tide with a NE wind and flat surface with a waist high swell.
Worked several miles of beach and found a nice hole. Caught two sundials and a dozen flat ones, all released safely and all healthy, fat and at 16 inches.
I ws using casting gear with a hammered spoon, but switched over to a bucktail and four inch white swirly tail on the teaser. Lots of fun on the light gear.
Left them biting as the sun set due to enthusiastic cast and a birds nest:
