Just checking. Is there a minimum number of clams you can pick up or is just one illegal??

If you have the recreational license you may harvest 150 clams at a 1.5 inch minimum...in the allowed regions which can vary during parts of the year based on water cleanliness...i believe surf clams are off limits...unless you have the license 1 clam is illegal...technically i believe if you pick it up you are supposed to replace it where it was... i could be wrong but someone once told me tossing them is also frowned upon

Not sure if they would give you a hard time elsewhere but out at the hook you can?t even dig for worms or even pick the flowers. If it?s on the ground, you can?t touch it.

The fed rangers at the hook will definitely give you a hard time about it as BY stated.

No one else would really care unless you were observed doing it within site of one of the more popularly observed jetties.

Sorry to distract us from our clam discussion (which I started), but I would ask the gallery what your impression is of the use in trying to fish through the next few days of unsettled weather. I might be able to make a mid morning run for a few hours fishing in the bay of surf. Are conditions going to be too roiled to be worth it?

My experience says there are guidelines as a general rule but we all know about having great days during south wind at dead low or catching during lousy conditions; they are guidelines but many times I go and give it a try if I'm there

Ended up going to OB, Long Island Sound instead of RB which had bad reports....low tide was not that bad...weather was perfect...low humidity, low 80ies...very enjoyable.

Tried first for fluke at my usual spots but could not get even a short one ( maybe because of low tide?)...was catching sea robin after sea robin...then switched to porgies and caught over a dozen fish using small jigs tipped with fish-bites and kept 2 in 15-16" range...then went back to fluking and now they were biting ...caught about a dozen shorts with on 21" keeper in 18ft of water on white gulp...

Had an unusual incident as I was coming back thru the canal ...a guy about 50 yards from me at the shore cast a heavy rig over my kayak as I was passing by...30 seconds later his line got tangled with my propeller and my motor stopped...when I lift it out of the water there was a sinker hanging on my prop...needless to say I could have gotten the sinker in my head...some people are really irresponsible

scary indeed, Only once did I almost hit a boat. I walked out to the tip at SH during fall bass run a few years ago and one of the small boats that feel the need to fish 20 feet from the shore had drifted into the path I was casting. Luckily I caught it in time and saved my jig and a dent in someone's head of boat.
