Default Surf Fishing Beach Cruiser

Here are some pics of my bike that I tunrned into a Surf Fishing Beach Cruiser. I used a standard rear bike rack and attached the crate to the rack using a bunch of wire ties. I cut a sand spike in half and attached it to the crate using hose clamps. PVC would work just as well. The crate I used was not a milk crate, but a crate used for filing. I am going to switch it out when I can find a standard milk crate. I am going to need to add anoter kick stand to the rear of the bike to balance it out.

Interesting thread...I just saw this little gadget [see link below] that attaches to the axle of one's bicycle. I wish these were around when I was a kid! It would have made getting to the dock for some snapper fishing a lot easier!

Very Cool but I would have mounted the rod holder tubes on the inside corner of the create, making a hole in the bottom of the create. That way I could turn the reels toward the inside and give them some protection in a fall down spill over.

Also while I am on a roll with suggestions: weld a foot on the end of the kick stand. Yours is not going to do well in soft earth.

Ok one more suggestion: piece of masonite cut to shape for the bottom of the box. Nothing like a wet rooster tail running up your back to take the fun out of life when you ride on wet roads.

Merlin,

Thanks for the suggestions. I was already planning on moving the tubes inside the crate. I am going to put some thing on the inside of the crate. I knew this would be a trial & error project. Thanks again.

Ok--now we are smokin! While you are at it tip, tilt the rod holders backwards. That would make it easier to lift the old leg over the seat.

Keep in mind the materials you use--make them light in weight unless you want a land barge.

I like it! Just got a bike myself and was thinkinh of adding something so I could transport my freshwater rod the lunker large mouth pond 2 miles away. Where do you carry the jack, spare, board, fire extinguisher, and other safety equipment?

Thumbs up Re: Surf Fishing Beach Cruiser

That is very cool! When are you going to add the GPS, XM SAT Radio, Ipod holder and of course, cupholders?

I moved the rod holders to the inside of crate and it is much better. The hose clamps fit better (tighter) and it is alot sturdier.

Pretty cool Josh! I wouldn't worry about changing the box over to a standard milk crate though. All it's going to do is add weight. Good luck with it!

don't forget:

Might get some ideas looking at what kayakers have done with their crates, or do a search fro crate mate.
