Thumbs up Re: Pop Quiz

Rags wins. St Peter (Simon Peter) was indeed a commercial fishermen in Galilee. His partner was his brother Andrew!

Quote:
Matthew and Mark report that while fishing in the Lake of Gennesaret, Simon and his brother Andrew were called by Jesus to be his followers, with the words, "Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men" (Matthew 4:18-19; Mark 1:16-17).

In Luke's account Simon is the owner of a boat that Jesus uses to preach to the multitudes who were pressing on him at the shore of Lake Gennesaret (Luke 5:3). Jesus then amazes Simon and his companions James and John by telling them to lower their nets, whereupon they catch a huge number of fish. Immediately after this, they follow him (Luke 5:4-11).
Additionally......
Quote:
In Catholic tradition, Peter's leadership role among the Apostles, lies at the root of the leadership role of the Pope among the bishops of the Church. The Pope is seen as the successor of Peter as bishop of Rome.

The popes wear the Fisherman's Ring, which bears an image of the saint casting his nets from a fishing boat.
St Peters Basilica in Vatican City is the tomb of a Commercial Fisherman!

Lets not forget the oldest commercial fishing port in the world in Israel. Jaffa is the oldest working port in the world. Just south of Tel Aviv they still work nets and fish the med from the same docks(stone docks) that where used for thousands of years. He might of even used this port if he fished the med along with the Sea of Galilee...

Who was the guy that had the fisherman throw their nets back out(after they were unsuccessful all day) and have them fill the boat until it was overflowing?
...was that really a good thing to show commercial fisherman? Like how many trips end up with the Capt praying to God that the full deckloads don't sink the ship?

Funny! It's the same man who took 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish,
"...blessed the food, broke it, and gave it to the disciples, who distributed it to the people present - 5000 not counting women and children - all of them being fed. The Gospels also state that after the meal was over, the disciples collected the scraps, filling 12 baskets."
