I happened to catch the last 3 innings of the AS game last night... glad I did.

Was great seeing the tribute and, being an AL fan, great seeing the NL l o s e

That was a beautiful thing and a baseball memory I will relish.

However that may be the best memory we will have of the 2013 Yankees.

Granted the Yankees have had bad luck with injuries this year but the Boss would open his wallet and buy what he needs. I doubt the Yankees are going to make the major moves (aka $$$$$) they need around 7/31. The "boys" are bookkeepers while their Dad was a fan and always wanted to win at any cost.

Bob,

You got that right on all counts. The sons are looking like a replay of CBS.

sad that Mo even has to address this piece of garbage:

"
“I don’t know what happened with Alex,” Yankees closer Mariano Rivera said on Monday. “He’s my teammate, and I have to support him 100 percent. We need to see where this goes. The good thing about this is we’re cleaning the game. That’s the way it should be. I think this is a message for whoever tries to do this again, that it’s going to be caught. It’s going to be caught.
“I mean, I have to support him. He’s my teammate. He’s my brother. Definitely, I (can’t) say if he did or didn’t do it. If it happens, I can’t throw him in the street, you know? He’s still my brother.”"

In spite of Francesca considering him an "all time immortal", I NEVER EVER wanted that douche on the team. From day 1.

Default Do you trust the Yankees?

'um, I'd rather not get into that....'

oh jeez... the question I have is, do you trust Alex Rodriquez
Yankees angered, order more rehab for Rodriguez

.

NEW YORK (AP) ? Major League Baseball is investigating him, the Yankees are angry with him and Alex Rodriguez is miffed.
A-Rod's strained relationship with his team hit another low on Thursday when he kept pushing to be activated from the disabled list and New York kept pushing back. He wound up having a lawyer join in when the sides discussed how to rehabilitate his slightly injured leg.
Already a target of Major League Baseball's drug investigation, the third baseman angered the Yankees when he obtained a second medical opinion on his strained left quadriceps this week without informing the team in writing, a step required by the sport's collective bargaining agreement. The Yankees intend to discipline him, most likely with a fine.
"Do you trust the Yankees?" Rodriguez was asked Thursday during an interview on WFAN radio.
A-Rod's answer was telling.
"Um. You know, I'd rather not get into that," he responded. "I'm just frustrated that I'm not on the field tomorrow."

Thumbs down Re: The 2013 New York Baseball Thread

It's pretty obvious the Yankees don't want A-Rod to be activated so they can bail out on his contract, I think he's still owed $120M.

The Steinbrenner Boys have written off the 2013 season and have no intention of making a run at the Playoffs. They may get Soriano on the cheap from the Cubs but he's already 37 & not the guy that can turn it around. If they had one or more hot prospects in the Minors they would already be playing so the 2014 season looks bad unless the Yankees spend a lot of money over the winter. On the other hand and in their defense how dumb do the GM's of the Angel's and Blue Jays look today as well as the ESPN pundits who crowned them as invincible teams before the season started. Still the dumbest GM in the business has to be Jack Zduriencik of the Seattle Mariners.

I'm not defending anyone who cheats, in any sport, but I do not like the way MLB has and continues to "leak" information. If they have proof of cheating by a particular player they should release it rather than their current process of character assassination via ESPN.

BTW If you believe that only MLB players have and continue to cheat, while NFL & NBA players remain "virgins" I own a bridge in Brooklyn you can buy real cheap.

NFL and MBA players definitely cheat, no doubt.

And MLB has really gone on a witch hunt after Arod... why weren't the other 100 names in the "anonymous" list "leaked". The players union and MLB must know who they are, or have the ability to determine.

I think Hank and the boys have their eye off the ball and are worried about other things. Cashman has his hands tied to a degree. The Yankees are toast this year and I worry about a return to the CBS years. I think they view the Yankees as a cash cow to finance other things... from what I've heard. So, looks like they are going to conform to a cap to avoid the luxury tax.

I know this is a baseball thread, but the NFL is always praised for their stringent drug testing, yet only a very small percentage of players ever get caught.
How can a sport comprised of freakish monsters NOT have a steroid problem.
You have 250lb. linebackers running 4.4 40yd's. I'm sorry there are not that many genetic freaks on the planet. I have to believe NFL players have found a way to beat the tests. I think if you move a little money it wouldn't be that hard to know when they are going to test you a week or so in advance.

Selig would not challenge it years ago w/ Bonds .... it is pick and choose AROD will be the fall guy because he is Hispanic. It has been a dirty business (not clean) players were using Amphetamines since the 50’s Did it gives players an edge ? YES ! no difference than any Bio drugs used today. The deals have already been made and we will wait and see.

There is a NJ kid in AAA Trenton that would (when ready) fill that 3B pos. nicely

I've heard the "Pep Pill" story repeated by Aaron and many others. It does speak to the fact the old time players, owners, and media were no more righteous than the current bunch. That said, there is no comparison in current PEDS compared to the pep pills of yesteryear in terms of influencing actual performance

While it's pretty clear a rod is being targeted, I don't buy the racist assertion.

Spit balls, corked bats, Vaseline Rob I know guys of yesteryear who traveled hours and hours of riding trains & busses to ball parks up and down the country. Some needed help not extra B.P. The difference is muscle recovery and keeping you “Pep Up “both help your ability to play the sport to those who don’t use . Then why is arod a target? Why because his case is weak ? Buddys nose knows I just hope MLB don't use taxpayer $$$$ again for this nonsense.
