Here I am offshore almost out of my jurisdiction. I have a new eager young deckhand with me , We set my tub of hooks in a little less then 15 miles in about 3 hours that pretty good for two guys. So I steam back up to where We'll be camping out for the night and my starting point in the morning.

When we get to out end, I take her out of gear and let my my girl have a well deserved rest. Then I start lecturing the youngster what to do {Wake me up} for any reason I don't care WAKE ME UP. Well I was pounding this into his head I was getting my rods ready to give him something to do to help pass the time. I use Rods to catch fresh bait on the steam in and out. These rods have been pimped up just a tiny bit. They are all but glassed into my rails and no way in hell is any thing gonna snap the line or the rods, with 12/0 Penn senators it's just like using my hydraulics. They crank everything right up.

So feelin safe I go down to take a short nap just a few hours till the kid gets a little tired. I'm in bed just counting sharks jumpin over the fence. WHEN " get up here get up here " Oh $hit I scramble right out on deck whats the matter ? The kind say we have a bite with that the line starts screaming out. You know that sound. I lock down the drag and start cranking this fish is pulling pretty good but I know that were over powering it. A few seconds go by of my cranking and then all of the sudden the line is limp $hit we lost um. Oh well back to bed I start cranking the line in when we hear this god awful THUDon the back of my boat. By now my swivel is up and I can tell that the fish is right at the back of the boat. I unsnapped my swivel which had one of my long line rigs on it and snapped my LL snap right into my mainline. Now Mr shark is gonna feel some power. We cranked that baby right up to the block he had no clue what just hit um.

A quick blast with Mr 410 and he was down in the ice chilling in under 5 min.

on the way home I got to thinking strip all of my gear off put a zillion rod holders around the rail line the deck with bench's and charge 12 bucks a head.

YEAH RIGHT that part was the sleep deprivation kicking in.

I have to admit that was my first mako ever on rod and reel I don't see what the big deal is.

Try some lighter tackle

Since the first fish was caught on a rod and reel you're considered sport for the day and must follow our regs. 1 shark per trip, must be over 54 inches.

how big did it go? Next time you gotta go standup no cranking form the rod holders...

you gotta stick a fighting chair on your deck...
