Last trip of the year for tog for me this afternoon... I don't do the ocean thing. Sporadic bite but enough for dinner.

Some schoolie stripers are around the back bays... We will also get a few dumb bigger ones who dont stay out with their friends 5 miles off shore... so there is that

I went yesterday to LIS to target blackfish on the kayak. It ended up to be a very nice day with a light breeze...caught 30+ shorts with 2 keeper around 17"...the bite was not as steady as before but shorts were definitely larger...there were some small bass blitzing early in the morning ( around 20-22"). So glad that I went since weather forecast shows a windy and cold ahead...

Great job for those who are catching but I have to say I've been following the forums and tackle shop reports and this fall run is depressing me and I live 1,000 miles from the Jersey shore. What is with the fall runs of the last few years. No gator blues, mostly dink stripers. Is it that bad or are more people becoming tight lipped about what they catch? Anyway, good luck to those who keep grinding it out.
West coast of Florida has its own problems but that's for another forum.

I have to admit that I've turned into one of those shy posters. I caught my first striper (singular) of the fall last week and didn't really think it worth mentioning. However, give me a few more fish or even one nice keeper and I'll be happy to crow and spot burn like in the good old days.

I've fished 5 times and caught fish 4 out of 5 times, but none of those were stripers. Crappy.

As blaze alluded to these are the type of seasons that separate the hardcore from the fair weather fisherman. My next trip to NJ for fishing purposes will definitely not be in the fall. Just seems the spring run is more productive, especially with blues.
