On the yak yesterday in the back of RB. I started off good with a keeper right away. The wind layed down and it was tough fishing. Had to power drift the channels. Ended up with 10 fluke with 2 keepers. Most of the fish were on frozen peanuts I had left over from last year John. Read very little bait in the channels, but on the ride back in the flats were LOADED with bait. Nice day with lots of sun.

I did see the stripes take off for the deeper water when they saw the gang coming their way. It could simply be a survival instinct as I don't see how the rays could inhale them.

I was on the boat Sunday and only got 3 keeper fluke - very disappointing number of keepers for us - no shortage of shorts.

Porgy schools 20ft thick in 30ft of water
Reliable reports of flukers catching a few weaks from your haunts also, JB

no, can be quite the opposite as rays sometimes mud-up the bottom with their wings dislodging bait.

BUT you do have to watch out for them if you're targeting something else

Spent some quality time with my friend fishing in LIS with a launch from OB...target fish were porgies but somehow I engaged in fluke fishing more and was awarded with 3 sizeable keepers (23,22,21)...caught 2 dozen of pesky sea robins as a by-catch ( kept one at 17.5") and 2 porgies at 14-15" . Very nice outing. Thanks to Roger and Lee for the company.

Ocean County. The front and the back. I did a 24 hour marathon and threw the bag at them. No luck for me but did see two 26 inch flat ones come in from a back area with swift deep current.

Where is the 17" porgy? You promised me one if I came!

Outstanding trip bud.

I was in the Hudson canyon Saturday when we had a shaft pull out of the transmission 87 miles from port. A 6-7mph ride home on one engine = 15-16 hr ride back. Most of it through crappy weather in the dark. 3 yellowfin that will taste extra good after that ordeal.

17" porgy was released for you to catch him next time

It could have been worse...you could have needed tow service...
Btw, did you troll along the way ?...you could have gotten another yellowfin

Need a Med rod to use when in Fla in winter. Have a 7’ 6in century I use here to start season and for smaller blues/weaks/bass. Looked at a 7’9in rod by Phenix. Very nice but never heard of it. Reviews good. Anybody know this brand??
