Nice fly, Hook! Also, nice fly hook. I used a Ray's for the first time a few weeks ago in Martha's Vineyard. Several of us used it, and the spinning guys used them as teasers. We all got quite a few bass, even in daylight. I tie mine a little smaller 2.5-3"...size 1 hook.
The other fly that worked well for me is Ken Abrames Eelie. I use either bucktail or saddle hackles in the same color scheme as the Rays Fly, although the original I think is only olive over white. The bucktail or hackles are only for a tail. The body is some pearlescent flash...there is NO wing. Very thin profile=nice sandeel.
The Ray's and the Eelie also produced a LOT of shad for us at MV. They were like mini tarpon.
