Default Rays fly

a really good pattern i'll use w/ the 5 w early striper in the LI Sound & Hudson river or anywhere
2/0 trident circle hook ( my call )
mono thread
silver body
krystal flash 4 doubled over
white under yellow under olive buck tail
peacock herl ( 4 )
just shy of 5" in length

Great fly Chuck. I buy them since I don't tie and mine are not quite as long. That whole less is more look makes for easier casting. My first time over "here"

Nice fly, Hook! Also, nice fly hook��. I used a Ray's for the first time a few weeks ago in Martha's Vineyard. Several of us used it, and the spinning guys used them as teasers. We all got quite a few bass, even in daylight. I tie mine a little smaller 2.5-3"...size 1 hook.
The other fly that worked well for me is Ken Abrames Eelie. I use either bucktail or saddle hackles in the same color scheme as the Rays Fly, although the original I think is only olive over white. The bucktail or hackles are only for a tail. The body is some pearlescent flash...there is NO wing. Very thin profile=nice sandeel.
The Ray's and the Eelie also produced a LOT of shad for us at MV. They were like mini tarpon.
