So its real. I can't count it without some identifiable facts -- fisher, date, -- something to separate it from other 59 pounders. Otherwise, the fish can be counted twice. Then we have claims and verifiability issues. Thanks for the try; again I'll watch for other mentions.

I'll put "Boots" down for a 59 pounder and watch for other obscure 59s to avoid duplication. This stuff happens all the time; we work with it. Thanks for your patience.

some guys don't need all the glory & rather preserve the breeders & let them go . My buddy from F.I. has taken a lot , lot of fish over 50 lbs , a true sportsman of our game . I was surprised of his photo / magazine & over the internet . Maybe it was time to photo op. or got tired of boats " Bird Dogging " him leaving the inlet

The subject of 50-pounders is enigmatic because everything over 40 pounds becomes a fifty. On one hand you have the exaggerators and on the other the liars who "return" all their claims to fight another day. Having once been a weighmaster for the old Schaefer Contest, I have seen stuffing, scale shopping, added water, you name it. Were it not for my annual article covering the total catch of 50-pounders which I sell in the form of good copy, I would not touch this subject with a ten foot pole. Most of what is claimed is unadulterated bullship. I just report the claims and believe me all they are is claims. I count the people who say they did it and tell others about it. What I believe has no relevance to reality. I am not the fifty pounder police.

exaggerations are one mans dreams, Wilt Chamberlain claims to nail over 1,000 broads during his NBA career but who's to disagree ? not even boat or B&T scales are calibrated yearly, so most is BS / fake news advertisements anyway , unless its state / world records authorized scales , but I do enjoy the good ole fish stories which makes up this sport .

Many fifties are being returned unweighed which is causing an under reporting of moby stripers which, other years, would have been counted. Its a changing world and there is much less killing of these trophy stripers. This is, as a natural evolution of things, good for the fishery.
