Default Questions about Plum Island

I've a got a question for anyone who's familiar with Plum Island...

It seems like most folks fish the north end or go up by the Merrimac (Joppa flats area). Any word on the south end/Sandy Point area? It seems a lot quieter down there (and easier on a newbie like myself), and I'm curious if anyone had recomendations for that end. I know Emerson rocks is supposed to have a somewhat deeper channel on one side, but at night I haven't been able to tell which side that is. Any advice (without giving away any precious local secrets) would be appreciated! thx npm

I'll give it a shot, I have some knowledge of the area but there are those around here with a lot more than I. Maybe one of them will weigh in as well.

There is a deeper channel over on the Ipswich side, but to the best of my knowledge the water on either side of emerson rocks is fairly shallow, at least within typical casting distance. If you're looking for deeper water I think you'll find that up towards the beginning of the reservation, closer to the gate.

Most folks fish the North end or the river when the fish are in the river.
The fish are mostly gone from the river right now.
The South End is a great place to fish if you don't mind walking at low tide.
It gets very shallow.
It has been far from quiet down there
Keep in mind that the Refuge will not allow you to night fish after the 31st of October.
The deep channel you are referring to is on the right.

many thanks...and I didn't know about the restriction after the 31st

I'm thinking of drifting eels on the outflow from the little river (Parker?) down there past the point on the falling tide, and then working my way around to the rocks. Assuming it's not too bright with the moon this weekend...

You're welcome.
You should do well.
The macs are running at dusk. I am hoping to get a few to liveline.
The fish are usually far and few by now but I have heard good things all week.
We did really well last weekend.
This will be our last trip with the camper so we are going no matter what.
I have high hopes seeing as the big fish just showed up in numbers last week.
