Exclamation October Fishing Reports 2010

Post them up good or not so good.
From the surf or the back bays are ok.

Lot's of bait in the surf zone the past few weeks.
Small Blues have been in and the Striper bite should pick up as the water temps drop.

Default a good one!!!

Went down to the Hook after work today. I needed to get to the Tackle Box before they closed at 6:00PM, figured no problem as I left my house at 4:30 (Carlstadt). Got on Tpk and headed south. Western spur moving right along, then at exit 13 I see the brake lights. Oh no!!! Well the traffic started moving again and my worries ceased.Onto the parkway and It was moving!!! 5:15 now as I approach exit 117. This is a piece of cake I thought!!! Come around the turn and see brake lights on the ramp to 36 south. I think nothing of it, and go thru toll and realize that the traffic is not moving at all. Oh great!! But I think there is no problem, i have an 3/4 of an hour to get to TB. Well I sat there and sat there watching the clock, 530 then 545 oh no, i'm not gonna make it. I call TB and ask if there is an alternate way, luckily there was and i made it. Picked up a dozen clams and continued to the hook. The sky is clearing up and I can see the sun going down quickly. Got to the hook and set up shop, using a Hi-Lo rig, 11 ft SeaHawk pole, 6500 baitrunner, 20lb test and the clams. I was amazed at how much sand was covering the rocks. The water was clean!! The wind was kickin from the west/Nw. After getting a couple of hits, I finally landed one at 8:05. He went from ground to my knee, so he went back. I caught a second one around 9:30 with my last clam!! Despite the kickin wind, it was beautiful tonight. Watched a cruise ship leaving port, checked out the stars, watched the planes landing at JFK and relaxed. I didn't see or hear another fisherman.

Massive fire I think on 36 yesterday, saw at least 3 different towns respond to it. Shut down 36 right in front of the tackle box. Took me ten minutes to get out of the parking lot of my gym because of the backup.

Hey Bayyaker or any other Sandy Hook regulars- have they removed the big "Endangered Species" stop sign at the approach to the False Hook?

I was amazed at how high the sand is now by the rocks. I was almost able to cross the rocks and be level on the ocean side. it must be reverse erosion!!! good luck today bayyaker. It was a massive fire on 36, but the guy at TB sent via Poole ave. which bypassed the problem spot.

SS, SSP and IBSP (north end) from 430a-1030a: All artificials and 1 fluke for my time....Few light hits in the wash was all I could manage besides the flattie. Saw 1 keeper pulled in on a clam around 930a and saw 1 come off in the wash. As the tide began to drop, the surf started to build. Looks like clams are the way to go if you want some meat. Lots of big surf clams up and down the beaches. 33hemi!

Fishing in AC from 12-3 PM, water very dirty. Cleared up for about an hour and managed to short striper 22" and 24." Then it went back to being very dirty not worth the bother so I left.

Nice Jess! What kind of cut bait: bunker, mullet, or spot?
