Question Jeep Transmission

The transmission in my 01 Jeep Grand Cherokee has been slipping ever since Flemington Chrysler Jeep did the 60,000 mile service. It only slipped every once in awhile but now it's doing it everyday. I'm bringing it in Monday to see what the problem may be.

Just in case.... how much should a new transmission cost? Do I tell them put in a rebuilt transmission or an official new MOPAR transmission or take it some place else?

Bob,

Before my Brother got the 03 GC, his tranny went on the 01 around 70,000 miles. If I remember correctly, someone told us to stay away from the rebuilds when it came to jeeps and to just have a new one installed. I think we paid around $2400 at the Maaco on Morris Avenue in Union.

Oh, almost forgot. The dealer wanted $3000 for a new tranny. I don't trust the dealerships with prices, especially after the Planet Honda wanted $700 to install fog lights on Liz's Civic We've had two transmissions replaced at Maaco and never had a problem. Our mechanic in Union actually recommended them.

Bob
Most likely it's toast. There a common problem.
Best price vs warranty would be the best way to shop IMO.
Your looking at about $2,000 and up retail.

Paul, Maaco is a body shop.

maybe Aamco ?

don't let them rebuild, most would get a rebuilt from a shop... but get the best price on a new

either way, you want that sweet intersection of lowest price and longest warranty

That's what I meant

As far as I know, the warranty doesn't cover the transmission after 45,000 miles unless you purchase the extended warranty from the dealership. Jeep now has a lifetime powertrain which can be purchased but that's only on new models.
